 Apple designed Lockdown Mode for people facing grave threats, but we're seeing it work in practice against federal forensics. During a recent investigation into a journalist, the FBI reported that it was unable to extract any data from an iPhone because the feature was enabled. It is rare for a software setting to hold its own against professional, state-level tools. 🔒 The strength of this mode comes from how it drastically reduces the attack surface of the device. By disabling just-in-time JavaScript and blocking most message attachments, it removes the entry points that forensic tools like GrayKey typically exploit. It also forces the device into a state in which biometrics are disabled, requiring a passcode that often carries stronger legal protections during a search.

🧠 Lockdown Mode specifically blocks wired data connections used by extraction hardware.
⚡ The FBI confirmed in court filings that its Computer Analysis Response Team was blocked.
🎓 Using this mode requires giving up features like shared photo albums and link previews.
🔍 Apple offers a $2 million bounty for anyone who can bypass these specific protections.

Here's what I see from frame-by-frame of the video:

The officer with the helmet on the left trips his right foot on his bike headbutting the woman in the stomach, the old man in the white shirt tries to pull the officer off her, another much younger officer comes in from bottom center and begins deliberately punching the old man in the left side of his guts repeatedly.

The old man wasn't resisting, wasn't fighting, he was trying to protect the woman next to him, and GE-Minns thinks what the police did is "fine"..

by Osmond Chia, October 9, 2025

"Discord, a messaging platform popular with gamers, says official ID photos of around 70,000 users have potentially been leaked after a .

"The platform, which has more than 200 million users worldwide, says hackers had targeted a firm that helped to verify the ages of its users but the Discord platform itself was not breached.

"People can provide ID photos to verify their age on Discord - a networking hub for players to chat and share files with others in the gaming community."

Look like Google is running out of money to fund its AI biz. Alphabet Looks to Raise About $15 Billion From US Bond Sale bloomberg.com/news/articles/20 ( archive.is/Ki9aD )

For the first time since the dot com bubble, tech companies are issuing bonds again. I wonder how they’ll pay if the AI bubble bursts? Sounds like a risky bet to me.

RE: mastodon.social/@verge/1160410

Two things:
1. We are creating a two-tiered internet that will see people willing to give up their IDs having one experience while those who can’t, won’t, or don’t have them missing out on those experiences or being outright excluded from whole areas of the web

2. Why you would be willing to give up your ID to web services that have such poor security in a time when identity is being weaponized by state actors is beyond me
