just discovered textile-lang.com/ while looking into how to markup links in plaintext

this seems... okay? for really basic stuff?

"inner text":href

textile-lang.com/doc/links has more examples, including using this

"$":href

to make the inner text equal to the href

I wanted to see how a bit of API is used, so I had Codex.app create a sample Xcode project and it went off and did exactly what I wanted (which wow, so cool).

Figured it was a good chance to try out Claude to see it was any better. Gave it the same prompt and it too eventually created the test app, but much slower. I tweaked some settings tried again and it went quite a bit faster, but then immediately hit its 5 hour API limit.

Same $20 plan, Codex was just a ton more efficient both time & $.

I use Messages for . It's not bad but its only solid features are the blocking and the fact I can use it in a web browser. Oh, and (as questionable as that may be).

I'd really like to move away from it because, well....Google, but I haven't found a suitable replacement - either on Google Play or F-Droid.

Most apps are rather bare bones when it comes to features. I am looking for something better.

I am on my second try for Messages on F-Droid but it once again never finishes syncing messages. I deleted over 60 large old conversations and still it gets to about 2/3 done before restarting. I let it run overnight and it never finished.

Any recommendations?

Been on LXQT on my computers (main, secondary and ancient) for about a month now and I'm pretty happy. I'm not missing much and it wasn't (apart from setting it up in the first place) not much of an effort to adapt.

I just updated the Ghostbsd boxes to 25.02-R14.3p8

Thanks to the Qogir theme for applications and icons and the marvelous wallpapers by @orbiteOrbite / OrbiteLambda lambda I felt right at home and thanks to the LXQT people, both the FreeBSD and GhostBSD team, the FreeBSD port maintainer for giving us the ability to chose.

Tried out Plasma 6 under Wayland on FreeBSD. Session starts up, but pressing Alt+F2 (krunner) immediately freezes the entire session.

Appears to be this bug, with no activity since last December:

Is this an SDDM problem? Should I be using something else?

Last year's shutdown of @glitchdotcom🎏 Glitch was a blow to my pedagogy. Glitch was ideal for creative coding classes and workshops. I looked around for alternatives. But there was nothing that was open, decentralized, and not at the mercy of VCs or Big Tech.

So I built my own. Here's Glitchlet.

Glitchlet runs on any shared hosting service (e.g., Reclaim Hosting). If you can run WordPress, you can run Glitchlet. Projects-in-progress are stored in the browser's local storage, but you can also one-click publish to make them public and remixable. Glitchlet is designed with educators in mind.

There's no single, primary Glitchlet that everyone uses. The idea is that every instructor installs their own Glitchlet and manages their own classes/workshops/projects. You can seed your instance with template files, or Glitchlet can easily import projects (including archived Glitch .tgz files).

Making something so easy to install and host has trade-offs, of course. No fancy pants Node or React projects, but Glitchlet works beautifully with HTML/JavaScript/CSS. No live collaboration, but you can still remix published projects.

Best of all—you're in control and not subject to the whims of some startup that suddenly decides to "sunset" a key pedagogical tool.

Glitchlet is alpha now, but its code will available to all very soon!

Turns out that GPU Autocomplete as a Service works a lot like regular autocomplete:

  • It works better if it has more samples of what people actually type -- the two edged sword of user benefit and privacy concerns, and

  • If you don't check if it's right before you hit send ... that's on you.

And tickets are now live for my Concurrency lab at Swift Rockies. I'm pretty excited for this format and cannot wait to see what kinds of questions people have.

Oh, and the conference seems cool too 😉

A first essential condition on the cognitive is that cognitive states must involve intrinsic, non-derived content. Strings of symbols on the printed page mean what they do in virtue of conventional associations between them and words of language. Numerals of various sorts represent the numbers they do in virtue of social agreements and practices. The representational capacity of orthography is in this way derived from the representational capacities of cognitive agents. By contrast, the cognitive states in normal cognitive agents do not derive their meanings from conventions or social practices.
