Just another shout of appreciation for public libraries! Wellington has at least one good one (I strongly suspect more than one but I'm not going to be here for long enough to double check that).

Lovely place to sit and catch up on everything before heading to the south island in a few hours. The vast majority of the rest of the #ProfSamLectureTour will be from Christchurch and I'm really looking forward to staying in one city for more than a day or two!

really could do with an imap server type of thing that let me 1) get push notifications, 2) search through my internet messages from any device. stretch goal be able to handle formats other than message/rfc822 but whatever i'll take the bare minimum for now

・気候変動による収穫量減。特に世界最大生産国のブラジルと第2位のベトナムでそれぞれ干ばつやエルニーニョによる大打撃を受けたのがでかいです。そこがダメージを食らうと値上がり率がやばくなる。
ブラジルの世界最大生産国という肩書きですが、たぶん想像を超えてめちゃくちゃ飛び抜けているのでは。

・コーヒーの需要と供給の変化。中東やアジア圏(中国、韓国など)でコーヒーの需要が激増。ちなみに日本は2016年あたりをピークに普通に減っています。

国内情勢として内乱がある国などは(コロンビアなんかもそうですね)元々生産が不安定ではあります。ケニアなんかは農業でやっていくよりも都会で働いた方が稼げるので辞める人も多いそうです。農業ですもんね。私たちが飲みたくても収入が少ないなら農家は別の道を探るでしょう。(余裕があるひとはスペシャルティコーヒーを選ぼう！ というのはこういう理由もあります。頑張ってる農家さんに収入を……ということにもなるので)

・各国の事情。エチオピアですが、コーヒーは貴重な外貨獲得の手段なんだそうです。政府の方針で輸出に関してコロコロ基準が変わるそうなんですが、とりあえず今後めっちゃ高くなります。エチオピアすごく高くなります。エチオピアはつまりモカって呼ばれてるやつです。上司はずっと呻いています。

・トランプのせい。ブラジルにすごい関税かけちゃったから、アメリカの商社はブラジルのコーヒー豆を確保するのに必死になったそうです。ブラジルの生産量は世界最大であり……。

・日本の国力の弱さ。円安がやばい。コーヒー豆は過去最高値を記録。消費量が少ないから商社も買い渋って、安くなるのを待つも安くなる理由は皆無です。国内在庫を切り崩していった末が怖いなあ。加えて上に記した通り日本はこんな買い方なのでコンテナが積極的に寄港しません。中国に行ったついでに寄ってくれる、コンテナの隙間に積まさせてもらう、みたいなことも普通だそうです。
