I feel happy when I find people who are/were programmers and also write/wrote fiction #books. Like here's a person who has mastered the languages of both the natural and machine world. It give me hope for my own creative endeavors beyond #programming.

Moved into a new office. Now I have to reacquaint myself with all the new doors by remembering which ones to push and which ones to pull. Sigh.

The real hacking will only begin as they move toward shipping, but I have complete confidence in Shoaib and his outstanding team. Meeting them was a blast. Every single person radiates passion and deep technical understanding. You can’t fake that kind of energy, and it shows in the product.

Happy I love free software day! It snuck up on me while I was doing other projects, but here's a silly drawing I made today in Krita!

There are so many incredible projects out there which help countless people be empowered in their computing. Many thanks to all of the developers and web hosts, which allow folks like myself to stay away from proprietary and predatory corporations.

I don't have nearly enough characters, but here's several projects I've been using often. Thanks to everyone on the Fediverse (particularly Lemmy, Mastodon, and Peertube for me, as well as apps such as Voyager and Fedilab), KDE (especially Krita and Kdenlive), the mountain of people responsible for several GNU/Linux distros, GrapheneOS, F-Droid, Freesound, Matrix, LibreOffice, instruments using the SFZ standard (especially VCSL keys), and DAWs (LMMS, and Zrythm).

And a note for fellow non-native English speakers from European language backgrounds: I hear you, and we're on the same side of this, but the gap isn't the same for everyone. Korean and English have a linguistic distance of 89.2 out of 100—essentially no detectable relationship at all. No shared roots, no cognates to lean on, completely different writing system. The distance between, say, French or German and English is a different universe. So when I say LLMs are an equalizer for writing English, I mean it quite literally—without one, even expressing a simple idea in natural-sounding English can take me disproportionately longer than the idea itself deserves.

For ~50 years, programmer meant “writes code”. But, maybe it should have meant "solves problems".

In other words: companies don't pay programmers high salaries to write code, they pay them to solve business problems. Sometimes that means you don't write any code at all and fix a process problem. Other times, code is the solution.

The code is not the valuable artifact, though.
