No streaming tomorrow, as I will be on the way to a family vacation. If my executive function is really on point and we get ready early then maybe I'll hop on for a few hours later today. If I were a betting man I probably would not take that bet, thoughโ€ฆ

Hey, --

We totally forgot to publish the availability of the `hachyderm.general` collection we announced at a few weeks ago!

We started by publishing our roles that we use to keep the Hachyderm database servers happy and healthy. Included are modules to:

- build postgresql servers in both primary and replica configurations
- configure pgbackrest for full and incremental backups
- publish metrics for consumption by prometheus

Modules are available on Ansible Galaxy at galaxy.ansible.com/ui/repo/pub.

Happy Hachyderming (and Ansible-ing and postgresql-ing)!

It is now available in the following languages:

- English

If you know anyone who wants to run a local community calendar in one of those languages go ahead and tell them :)

It seems the time has come, huh. Is anyone looking for a senior SRE with deep Linux expertise and experience with infrastructure at massive scales (ex-Meta, ex-Apple)? UK, remote (happy to visit the office anywhere in the UK every month or so). I prefer working on the automation, CI/CD, load testing, or low level debugging. However, I will not work on anything related to generative AI.

Lumber dealer turns wood from disaster zone into โ€˜beautiful soundsโ€™

This is great.

"Masafumi Goto of the rock band Asian Kung-Fu Generation is expected to test the completed guitars at a session in February. He plans to play one of them during the groupโ€™s 30th-anniversary concert at the Ariake Arena in Tokyo in April."

Today in InfoSec Job Security News:

I was looking into an obvious ../.. vulnerability introduced into a major web framework today, and it was committed by username Claude on GitHub. Vibe coded, basically.

So I started looking through Claude commits on GitHub, thereโ€™s over 2m of them and itโ€™s about 5% of all open source code this month.

github.com/search?q=author%3Ac

As I looked through the code I saw the same class of vulns being introduced over, and over, again - several a minute.

Just a brief announcement that I have been working with to publish a short book in popular mathematics entitled , which will cover six of the fundamental concepts in mathematics -- numbers, algebra, geometry, probability, analysis, and dynamics -- and how they connect with our real-world intuition, the history of math and science, and to modern practice of mathematics, both in theory and in applications. The scheduled publication date is Oct 10, but it is currently available for preorder. us.macmillan.com/books/9780374
