So, I started to volunteer in our local community centre to help (mostly) elder people with their computer and smartphone problems.
It's fascinating. We have people there up to their 90s and they are all every open for change.
We remove ad ID's from phones, change default browsers, switch from MS Office to #Libreoffice.
And for next time I already have a date with an elder lady to switch her old Windows 10 laptop to Linux Mint.
And she is not the only one!
What a time to be alive.
having tested some of these AI things, I can't imagine using them to write code. every time I've tried to get it to solve a real-world problem, it has spiraled down some rabbit hole rather than producing anything aligned with the solution I had already written.
look for applications to become increasingly shit and buggy as people do this.

people love to talk about how janky GitHub has gotten since they started rewriting so much of their UI in react… but one of my favorite things about it is that now their site just leaks memory all over the place
My #LT6502 is assembled.
The hinges work really well, if a tad fiddly to get right.
The case, well there are a few gaps here and there, this could be improved with more clips.
Also I’ve learned a lot about 3D printing and there is a lot I would change.
But overall, I’m happy with it.
It’s a bit of a chonker but that honestly doesn’t bother me.

Intel has a tradition that every ten years they build an architecture that it is impossible to write a compiler for. The iAPX432, i860, and Itanium were each iterations of this. The next one was a GPU architecture with a two-dimensional register file (amazing for hand-coded assembly kernels, not great for anything that needed to merge lowering of vector permutes with register allocation). I didn’t pay attention to what they did most recently, I presume they made some AI accelerator that has amazingly high FLOPS numbers on paper and is impossible to target from MLIR.
