Let's zoom in on a particular area of the commons: the #FreeSoftware movement and their #FOSS deliverables, where a strong #WorkingInPublic credo dominates. The noble focus is on offering open technologies, software and systems. But in their quest to uphold #SoftwareFreedom the overlooked aspect is #sustainability. The ability to not only sustain oneself, but also by extension the creative #commons one is part of. The commons is an entirely chaotic grassroots environment with very specific social dynamics that are not properly accounted for. Instead top-down "herding of cats" governance models that work in regular business environments, are attempted. These may work, but only in small organizational settings, and NOT at scale where they break down.

FOSS in this definition is NOT commons-based. For that we need #ChaordicCommons where FOSS is the deliverable and #SOSS initiatives the engines of delivery, #FSDL (Free software development lifecycle) supply chains.

My experience with generative-AI has been that, at its very best, it is subtly wrong in ways that only an expert in the relevant subject would recognise. So I don't worry about us creating super-intelligent AI, I worry about us allowing that expertise to atrophy through laziness and greed. I refuse to use LLMs not because I'm scared of how clever they are, but because I do not wish to become stupider.

そもそもいろいろ省略しているんだけど、もともとこれ考えはじめたのが、米米CLUBの浪漫飛行のPV見たらうおお中身がなさすぎてすごいってなったんだけど、考えてみたら自分はミスチル世代で、ミスチルはバブル崩壊後のリアリティを構築している。米米CLUBは完全にバブル感あるし、それがJALとタイアップで「沖縄」のイメージ化にも寄与している。この辺、中平がプリプリしてたディスカバージャパンの話の延長線にある。嘘の地方イメージ構築という問題はたぶん歌謡を通じて観察できる。その一貫に与作もあると思う。そういうのはいったんバブル崩壊でご破産になっている。

bungie today reminds me of apple in the 90s: "beleaguered." remember when everyone would use that word about apple? i'm not the only one who stopped playing destiny. i really hope that this isn't the last time i'm around for the launch of a bungie game.

i was in a couple of the private tests. i had fun. i wasn't in the most recent one. and this week is only the server slam, not the full release. but i've been waiting.

when they announced @marathonthegame.bungie.net@bsky.brid.gy originally, a lot of people on the internet were like "who is this game for? who cares about this 30 year old IP, and who likes extraction shooters?" me. the answer is me. my favorite game company is re-making my favorite game in my favorite genre.

I quit Destiny in 2024. But between 2019 and 2024, I put 4856.9 hours into Destiny on Steam. remember, I started playing on PS2. it was... a lot. but also I (and the world) was Going Through Some Shit. but Destiny and the friends I played with really helped with all of that.

years later, i found myself with a PS4, and wanting to play something other than Death Stranding on it. And that's when I remembered: Bungie. So I downloaded Destiny 2.

I just had Opus 4.6 absolutely nuke a .NET binary integrity protection added by Dotfuscator in merely 30 minutes. The code was obfuscated to the teeth with string encryption and everything. It is wild how good this thing is at stuff like this. Now I can flip some important bits in the binary again without it complaining on startup 🙃

I had to give it the right code snippets of the integrity check, string decryption and prompts to do it and I knew what I was looking for, but still, doing this manually would've taken me hours if not the whole day.

This is a good article on machine learning, and it reminds me that I have a lot on my resume: NLP, vector calculations, stemming, tokenization that I should highlight in today's all-ai-all-the-time world.
