The thing with bubbles is that people have gotten impressively good at keeping them going. Even if built on pure nonsense, when there's a capital surplus a bubble that provides avenues for profitable speculation (and/or grifting) can just keep on running on the power of that alone. (Bitcoin still exists, for Christ's sake.)

I told everyone I was chaotic good! I did! 💛

The Verdict: If the listener is watching the video feed on YouTube or the TWiT site, this is easily an 8.5 or 9 out of 10 because Atwood's visual gags and frantic office backdrop are highly entertaining.

However, for a traditional audio-only podcast listener—who might find the visual-heavy prop comedy frustrating and the early tangents a bit jarring—it balances out to a 7.5. It is a deeply fascinating, uniquely chaotic interview that requires just a little bit of patience from the listener before delivering the "pearls."

@zkatkat These people need to go to hella jail after all is said and done. Meanwhile, I've started calling myself a programmer again. I never liked "software engineer". I know *real* engineers, and their field has way more rigor (and triple integrals, woof...). "Software developer" was fine until all the slopbro grifters started working. What's left? Programmer. I am a computer programmer.

NodeBB v4.9.0 — A Whole New /world!

julian @julian@community.nodebb.org

<p>Hello all!</p> <p>(Sorry, I could not resist with the title )</p> <p>Today we are releasing NodeBB v4.9.0, on a Friday, toward the end of the day, because we like having our weekends ruined.</p> <p>As usual, we recommend you update to this stable version of NodeBB, not least because it fixes a federation issue accidentally introduced last month.</p> <p>There are a bunch of new features and usability improvements here, for both end users and admins. Federation improvements abound, as well as a few moderation upgrades. As usual, we fixed a ton of bugs, and even a couple open issues from the 2010s :scream:</p> <p>Here is a list of the changes and new features you should expect to see! [...]</p>

Some time ago I put a piece of analog film in a light tight bag and placed a piece of uranium glas on top. After two weeks I developed the film and it is clearly visible where the piece of glass was sitting.

Black and white scan of the piece of negative film, the film strip is almost black, roughly in the middle is a square area that is bright because the radiation from the uranium glass exposed the filmPhoto of the piece of negative film in front of a white background, the film is clear, a square area roughly in the middle is dark grey due to the uranium glas exposing the film

@mariusormarius Mastodon supports all standard activities and has a wide variety of clients. I don't find softwares with similar capabilities impressive, although I respect your work (the only ActivityPub server-client project that is not a vaporware).

I doubt that language choice makes much difference, and Rust is not a dynamically typed language anyway. The difficulty you might be facing is likely due to JSON-LD.

The thanks was for your input with regards to collection management.

@silverpill

What happens when you send a "Offer" message to an actor on Mastodon? Can they accept it?

Can I create a group actor on Mastodon? Can I use this actor to boost other actor's posts and have it visible on a Lemmy client?

How can a Mastodon client ask the server to get a collection of all images with an specific tag?

@zkatkat The fact that most "recognized" software runs entertainment systems can be misleading.
Working with embedded engineering for well more than 30 years, I can say that there's software that can be deadly when badly crafted. Plus, I work on functional safety devices (IEC 61508), where safe and dependable systems are typically overengineered, in software as well. We may have redundant systems, safety analyzed and tested line by line, bit by bit, passing reviews and certification processes.

today i'm unhappy about NixOS because: the GRUB graphical mode straight up crashes on this motherboard. not "cannot boot a kernel", not "errors out", but "crashes attempting to transition out of graphical mode to text mode" (whatever that even means with an EFI framebuffer)

I spent thirty fucking minutes trying to figure out what went wrong. the kernel boots if i extract it from the nix store and use the EFI stub. every option in the GRUB menu crashes. i had to edit it using the EFI text editor (it's a polyglot image which Linux mounts as iso9660 but EFI mounts as FAT32) to enable textmode unconditionally

(interestingly, after this every time i transition between GRUB menus it complains about "not being able to fit glyphs on screen". maybe that's what crashes it? no idea.)

So I had to completely abandon social media and personal projects and whatnot for a while in order to raise a young family and succeed in a demanding job and remain alive. Now that job is gone! Oh no! On the plus side, my unceremonious departure has created a great deal of shareholder value.
