What is Hackers' Pub?

Hackers' Pub is a place for software engineers to share their knowledge and experience with each other. It's also an ActivityPub-enabled social network, so you can follow your favorite hackers in the fediverse and get their latest posts in your feed.

I have two eeros (A and B) connected with a set of amazon.com/dp/B09XWD61JB, with eero A connected to my wired infrastructure. eero B believes it's connected to my wired infrastructure. This is all fine, except if the wireless bridge goes down B transitions to wireless backhaul, and when the bridge comes back up there's now a network loop and why after fixing that did I just have to ping every address on my network to get broadcasts working properly again

the "baritone" vocal type wasn't generally used until the 19th century. T-puberty vocal roles were specified as tenor or bass, and in the 18th century, someone we would today call a baritone might take both "tenor" and "bass" roles. this did seem like a head scratcher to me because there so obviously is a T-puberty voice deeper than a tenor while still being higher than a bass. but as I examine more 18th century vocal scores I think I am figuring out how they got by without "baritones",

I... think my workspace crawler is done? Supports globs for matching members, centrally-defined dependency specs, plus centrally-defined dependency groups

I thought workspaces were gonna be a whole thing to implement, but I think integrating this into the resolver is actually not gonna be too bad.

// oro.kdl
workspace {
    members {
        "packages/*"
    }
    dependencies {
        react ^17.0.0
        react-dom ^17.0.0
    }
    dependency-groups {
        react18 {
            react ^18.0.0
            react-dom ^18.0.0
        }
    }
}
// packages/a/package.json
{
  "name": "a",
  "dependencies": {
    "b": "workspace:^",
    "react": "workspace:react18"
  }
}

Young(er) people are rediscovering the iPod (and are leaving streaming services behind). I am not surprised, I returned to the iPod three years ago.

From the article: "The iPod just grounds me, and it feels convenient to be in one place at one time, instead of everywhere at once.”

People priding themselves from moving away from OpenAI to Anthropic over the pentagon deal is laughable ...

If they had any ethic they wouldn't be using LLMs trained on stolen work to begin with, the least they could do is assume being asswipes.

I've been saying for a while that we need something like FediCon in East Asia. A dedicated conference is still a stretch, but I've been thinking about a smaller step:

@COSCUP 2026 (Taipei, Aug 8–9) is accepting proposals for community tracks. It might be worth trying to open a Social Web track there—something in the spirit of the Social Web devroom at FOSDEM.

Nothing is decided yet, but if you're working on , the , or anything in the social web space and might be interested in speaking (or co-organizing), I'd love to hear from you.

Also,

Keine Ahnung, was weiß ich.

The trick to actually really for real learning a language when you’re not immersed in it as the living language of your everyday life is to WRITE IT DOWN

ON PAPER. WITH YOUR HANDS

USE A BETTER PEN, THOSE CHEAP BALLPOINTS WILL INJURE YOU

JUST COPY A WIKIPEDIA ARTICLE IF THAT’S ALL YOU HAVE, IT *WILL* HELP

Rewriting other people's original reporting and clickbait-wrapping the "new" story is not new. But a scumbag operation called "The Daily News Today" is doing it at AI-juiced scale.

Alexios Mantzarlis, one of journalism's expert observers of this stuff, explains here:

Help needed! We are working on creating a general citation import filter. So we need ODT/DOCX files containing citations that were created with EndNote, Mendeley, Citavi, Paperpile... and any other citation manager you like to use. The converter will also be available for other open source citation management tools. Please send us your sample files! mail@fiduswriter.org

Head's up, Mastodon users: There appears to be a coordinated effort to impersonate relatively high-profile people who have accounts on various instances but who have not used them in a while.

I've gotten several follow notifications - and a couple of DMs - from impersonators of people I know. The bogus accounts have lots of underscores in the handles, and they repost items from the past, sometimes years old. If you spot this, please report, do not engage, and then block.

Pls boost.
