While I have no ill will toward the “ATmosphere” (Bluesky/AT Protocol), the contrast in funding models is hard to ignore. The fediverse's support from strategic investments in open infrastructure (like NLnet or STF) feels far healthier than ATmosphere's heavy backing from crypto-linked VCs—a sector often fraught with bubbles and social harm. I'm a bit envious of their smooth R&D resources, but I'm ultimately convinced that building on a foundation of digital public goods is the more sustainable path for a truly decentralized web.

Honest question: I have seen a lot of open source projects that mostly rely on git commit messages as their documentation. What are the benefits of this approach, or why is this preferred for you?

I like how Nolan paints this two-sided picture of AI coding. The worst fact about these tools is that they work. They can write code better than you or I can, and if you don’t believe me, wait six months. You could abstain out of moral principle. And that’s fine, especially if you’re at the tail end of your career.

So like ... In this kid ban on the internet shit, what the fuck are they SUPPOSED to use instead? Or is this just our generation's "go play outside" ... In all those spaces for kids to play outside that have been turned into streets and parking lots?

This is the longest-standing Firefox bug that I hit regularly: when an update is pending it just breaks in some completely unpredictable way. Something about discovering a pending update breaks something unpredictable, right down in the guts of the browser. I've been using Nightly for fifteen years and these days I hit it about three times a month.

Assigning a thread to a remote category

informapirata @informapirata@community.nodebb.org

<p>Hello everyone,<br /> I'm the administrator of a NodeBB instance (4.9.1) and I also display other remote categories within that instance (the communities of a Lemmy instance I manage).</p> <p><strong>I would like to point out that I have not opened an issue on Github because I am not sure whether the problem in question is a bug or just the consequence of a deliberate choice by the developers.</strong></p> [...]
