What is Hackers' Pub?

Hackers' Pub is a place for software engineers to share their knowledge and experience with each other. It's also an ActivityPub-enabled social network, so you can follow your favorite hackers in the fediverse and get their latest posts in your feed.

what theโ€”and I cannot stress this enoughโ€”absolute fuck:

"...sensitive and personal footage captured by [Meta Smart Glasses]โ€”including people going to the bathroom, getting dressed, and having sexโ€”is being reviewed by contractors who see all of it uncensored."

jmb.mx/blog/2026/03/02/looking

Iโ€™m making this post because I donโ€™t what else to do.

Iโ€™m looking for James Mast, a son of Moses Mast (my dear friend and mentor who recently passed away). If you are James or you know how to get in touch with him, please contact me (jmb.mx/contact) , as I want to make sure James can attend the memorial service (even if it has to be remote) but also for some other important issues.

FYI, James was last known to be in Cornwall, Ontario (see cbc.ca/news/canada/sixties-sco ) , but I havenโ€™t had any luck tracking him down.

RE: social.freedom.press/@securedr

The webโ€™s security model has long relied on trusting the server. WEBCAT is an attempt to change that. Please help test it if you can. Your feedback at this early stage of development is extremely valuable. Excited to collaborate on this with @freedomofpressFreedom of the Press and @securedrop

I'm happy to see new canadian social media like https://ehnow.ca/ and https://hey.cafe #canada

But so far, I still think #activitypub #mastodon and the #fediverse are the superior options.

Mostly because it's #decentralized and #federated

But most non-tech (normal) people don't understand those concepts.

They don't wanna deal with the fediverse because the learning curve is too high and they simply don't understand.

They just want something simple and that works.

We've just published an important post clarifying how to best apply humour to your talk proposals at .

We'd love everyone to be able to craft an interesting and entertaining talk that enthralls the audience, without missing the mark on the intended impact of any jokes.

Please give this a read if you intend on using memes, jokes or satire in your proposals.

international travel like we have enjoyed is basically a bubble imo. It's not actually that safe to just go wherever with only your passport and credit card, that was an illusion and that illusion is falling apart now the world is fracturing

Example: bsky.app/profile/why.bsky.team

> Until December of last year I was using LLMs as fancy autocomplete for coding. It was nice for scaffolding out boilerplate, or giving me a gut check on some things, or banging out some boring routine stuff.
>
> In the past two months Claude has written about 99% of my code. Things are changing. Fast

I have this suspicion that the ATproto stack, at least the stuff from Bluesky, is heading towards "majority-vibecoded" but that's mostly just from seeing a lot of posts from the Bluesky eng team rather than me having spent much time in the codebase

Why is def hugely responsible for much of Bluesky/ATProto's design and if *he's* mostly letting Claude write 99% of his code, the rest of the eng team is likely to be heading in that direction too?
