"I know that many men and even women are afraid and angry when women do speak, because in this barbaric society, when women speak truly they speak subversively - they can't help it: if you're underneath, if you're kept down, you break out, you subvert. We are volcanoes. When we women offer our experience as our truth, as human truth, all the maps change. There are new mountains.

That's what I want - to hear you erupting. You young Mount St. Helenses who don't know the power in you - I want to hear you. I want to listen to you talking to each other and to us all: whether you're writing an article or a poem or a letter or teaching a class or talking with friends or reading a novel or making a speech or proposing a law or giving a judgement or singing the baby to sleep or discussing the fate of nations, I want to hear you. Speak with a woman's tongue. Come out and tell us what time of night it is! Don't let us sink back into silence. If we don't tell our truth, who will? Who'll speak for my children, and yours?"

— Ursula K. Le Guin, from her 1986 commencement address at Bryn Mawr College (published in Dancing at the Edge of the World: Thoughts on Words, Women, Places).

On International Women's Day, a reminder that investment in sustainable transport is an equality issue. A transport system that assumes car ownership and doesn't provide safe and accessible alternatives is an unequal system.

Calling Fedi intelligence: do you have some interesting tips for a nice computer case worth living room next to TV?

Like, if you were to build an alternative Steam machine, what case would you use? Requirements would be: support for standard ATX PSU, microATX and miniITX motherboard, as silent as possible (also, it would not hold a power hungry GPU nor CPU, so no need for big cooling solution), beautiful design, fully covered (no see-through windows), maybe a built-in system status LCD display which could be managed from linux.

Edit for clarification: I'm looking for something which doesn't look much as a traditional case design - so although for example Fractal Design Era is a nice case, it's still very clearly a computer case at a first glance. Fractal Design Mood on the other hand fits roughly what I'm looking for, but I would like to see what other choices are possible.

On International Women's Day, we celebrate the women who contribute to CoMaps and OpenStreetMap, and also the women in our community who use CoMaps!

It's our goal to make CoMaps representative of the world that it serves. Do you have ideas for how we can improve our gender equality? Let us know!

中国のAIモデルに見られる“自己検閲”とは何か? 研究で見えてきたその実態

WIRED.jp @wired.jp@web.brid.gy

Boy, was I wrong 😂

RE: mastodon.social/@hanno/1161932

I've seen a non-native speaker trusting an AI translation tool to draft the German version of a minor document change.

The AI tool hallucinated a subtle mistake in the written-out number - "63872 (in Worten: Dreiundsechzigtausendachthundertundsiebzig)" - an error which the non-native speaker was obviously unable to spot.

Translation is often hailed as a positive example of using AI, but it suffers the same problem of human nature to accept a machine's plausibly looking result as "good enough" without the review that would be required.

ちなみにAstroは良いですよ
ページまたいでstateを維持しなくて良いようなサイトのSSGにはぴったり
逆にAstroでSSRやってstate保持して…みたいなことには向かなさそうではある

“I wanted the blue checkmark on LinkedIn. The one that says “this person is real.” In a sea of fake recruiters, bot accounts, and AI-generated headshots, it seemed like a smart thing to do.

So I tapped “verify.” I scanned my passport. I took a selfie. Three minutes later — done. Badge acquired. I felt a tiny dopamine hit of legitimacy.

Then I did what apparently nobody does. I went and read the privacy policy and terms of service.

Not LinkedIn’s. The other company’s”
