Zellij

Haze @nebuleto@hackers.pub

RE: dair-community.social/@Meron/1

As someone who came to the US as a refugee with political asylum I can't overstate how cruel this is. I was already terrified and had nightmares every day. And here they're telling you that you didn't get to safety after all that, that they will reverse your status on a whim, if they deem it safe for you to return. As Warsan Shire wrote, no one leaves home unless home becomes the mouth of a shark.

🚀 Stop the presses! We've finally cracked the code on making TED Talks even longer with Helios, the that generates endless video content in "real real-time" (because just one "real" wasn't enough). 🎥😂 Just what the world needed: infinite loops of discussing browser extensions and dark modes. 🌌🤦‍♂️

Helios: Real Real-Time Long Video Generation Model

View recent discussion. Abstract: We introduce Helios, the first 14B video generation model that runs at 19.5 FPS on a single NVIDIA H100 GPU and supports minute-scale generation while matching the quality of a strong baseline. We make breakthroughs along three key dimensions: (1) robustness to long-video drifting without commonly used anti-drifting heuristics such as self-forcing, error-banks, or keyframe sampling; (2) real-time generation without standard acceleration techniques such as KV-cache, sparse/linear attention, or quantization; and (3) training without parallelism or sharding frameworks, enabling image-diffusion-scale batch sizes while fitting up to four 14B models within 80 GB of GPU memory. Specifically, Helios is a 14B autoregressive diffusion model with a unified input representation that natively supports T2V, I2V, and V2V tasks. To mitigate drifting in long-video generation, we characterize typical failure modes and propose simple yet effective training strategies that explicitly simulate drifting during training, while eliminating repetitive motion at its source. For efficiency, we heavily compress the historical and noisy context and reduce the number of sampling steps, yielding computational costs comparable to -- or lower than -- those of 1.3B video generative models. Moreover, we introduce infrastructure-level optimizations that accelerate both inference and training while reducing memory consumption. Extensive experiments demonstrate that Helios consistently outperforms prior methods on both short- and long-video generation. We plan to release the code, base model, and distilled model to support further development by the community.

When asked whether the US would accept responsibility for a Tomahawk missile that destroyed an Iranian girls’ school and killed around 180 children, Trump said:

“I haven’t seen it. And I will say that the Tomahawk, which is one of the most powerful weapons around, is sold and used by other countries… Whether it’s Iran, who also has some Tomahawks, I wish they had more, but whether it’s Iran or somebody else, a Tomahawk is very generic. It’s sold to other countries… but this is being investigated right now.”

The Tomahawk missile is primarily a US weapon. The United States has the largest stockpile and is its main developer, operator, and exporter. Other countries, like the UK, Saudi Arabia, and a few NATO allies, have purchased a limited number of Tomahawks, but these are far fewer than what the US possesses.

I'm super hyped to announce that Bluesky Socal PBC has given me a grant to work on the Federated Credential Management (or FedCM) standards to make them really work for all decentralized web applications.

This is why I stepped up to be an Invited Expert with the W3C FedID Working Group earlier in the year. The missing part at that time was "how do I fund this work?" so I'm super happy that Bluesky Social PBC really came through with a grant to fund this work.

A really interesting thing that Bluesky Social PBC did here was they could have said "just make this work for AT Protocol" but instead they said "make this work for the entire decentralized web", and the contract explicitly states I should be working with the IndieAuth, Solid and other communities interested in federated and decentralized identity to make this happen.
