Very curious if others have memories of a service in the 80's called Portal. I recall using it in a few ways, one of which was UseNet and UUCP access. The host in this context was cup.portal.com (Cupertino, perhaps?) and appears in historical posts as "sun!portal!cup.portal.com!"

It's been bothering me why people I-know-who-know-better won't admit the real risk of AI coding on important codebases.
I'm not talking about AI evangelists, non-technical, or even devs without security/uptime ownership.
This is even outside social media, so you can't blame the algo.
Not in the context of arguing, so not rhetorical tricks.
Not even directed at me, so no identity performance.
What the hell is going on?

Ein großer Berg ist abgearbeitet. Ich habe alle eure Shop-Einreichungen geprueft, insgesamt über 200! Ich werde hier und da bei einigen Shops noch an den Details feilen, aber das Gros ist geschafft.

The Quebec Cooperative of Independent Bookstores, who have been selling (mostly French-language, but also English) books online for 15 years through leslibraires.ca, have launched a new initiative for independent bookstores across Canada.
There are currently 150 booksellers participating, with 25 English-language stores having now added themselves to the ranks.
I'm tickled pink by this expansion. I always check Les Libraires first when I'm looking to buy a book, in English or French. I even check if I'm looking for something in Spanish, just on the off chance they might have it in stock.
Since the coop's members have historically been mostly French-language sellers, Les Libraires is hit or miss for English titles. So, I'm really looking forward to seeing how this new site develops.
Give them a visit and buy a book to support small, local businesses across the country!
If there's an independent bookshop in your area who might benefit from participating, let them know about the project, too!
