I have the impression that primarily anglophone people don't read as much translated literature, because so much good literature already exists in their language, so this issue may not be as familiar within that demographic. As someone who did not grow up anglophone, I can tell you there is a world of difference between a good and a bad translation even when done by humans. Machine translations are not even on the scale.

From what I've observed, people who claim that LLMs can replace artists don't understand art, people who claim that they can replace musicians don't understand music, people who claim that they can replace writers don't understand literature, and people who claim they can replace translators don't rely on translations. If I had a button that would erase LLMs from the world but it would take machine translations away (which is a false dichotomy anyway), I would absolutely still press it.

As privacy activists, it's important to support the tools and organizations with good practices, but also to lead by example when it comes to moving away from the surveillance ecosystem.

Here is a very concise reason I absolutely loathe "AI" chatbots.

Stop making ME do the mental labour required for YOU to promote your business or offer your services.

I'm looking for a tech spec, a price list, to book an appointment, or fast answer to a concise question. I will get this in one of 3 ways:

Your well-produced web site & FAQ ...
Your helpful human expert staff who quickly understand my slightly uncommon need and your offerings...

Your competitor who offers one of the above.

Technology is not inevitable. We've decided not to have asbestos in our walls, lead in our pipes, or carginogenic chemicals in our food. (If you're going to argue that it's not everywhere, where would you rather live?) We could just not do LLMs. It's allowed.

音響・映像の送出用PCとしてキッティングするための設定が紹介されているのだけど、「なぜOS標準の設定から変更するのか」が逐一説明されていて勉強になる。おそらく数多の失敗の経験が背景にあると察せられる

Machine translations are often brought up as a gotcha whenever I criticize LLMs. It's worth pointing out two things: Machine translations existed decades before LLMs, and yes, machine translations are useful. However: I would never in my life read a machine translated book. Understanding what a social media post is talking about in rough terms? Sure. Literature? Absolutely not. Hell, have you ever seen machine translated subtitles? It's absolute garbage.

This has happened to me at least 3 times with Google.

- They offer a free service.
- I sign up for the free service.
- A couple years later, they say to continue with the free service you must now do something I don't want to, like pay monthly or agree to put my home address publicly on the Android store.
- I decline, and my account on the service is deleted.
- For literally the next 15 years, I periodically get inscrutable emails about service changes or minor pricing changes in Bhutan

[Product Update] Automatic enablement of new OpenTelemetry ingestion API

Hello Andi,

You may have previously received a notification regarding this update. If so, please disregard this message.

We’re writing to let you know that Cloud Observability has launched a new OpenTelemetry (OTel) ingestion API that supports native OpenTelemetry Protocol (OTLP) logs, trace spans, and metrics.

Starting March 30, 2026, this API will be added as a dependency for the current Cloud Logging, Cloud Trace, and Cloud Monitoring ingestion APIs. This change ensures a seamless transition as collection tools migrate to this new unified endpoint.
