I just saw a LinkedIN post from some principal security doofus at Microsoft being loud and wrong about large language models.
Serious question - given that Microslop has been producing trash code, which has been getting worse and worse over the last 30 years. Why do people still listen to them, or take them seriously? They wrote code so bad, it broke their text editor, why does anyone give credence to the things they say and write?
I'm sure it has to do with some combo of money and market share, but these clowns have been loud and wrong for three decades. I guess I shouldn't be surprised that they are still doing it today. Maybe that's the one thing that has been consistent about them over the years? That and being run by monsters.
Tempted to write a post that software development lost the plot a long time ago, and that the recent LLM developments are merely the icing on that cake. Software these days is not the painstaking work by people like

Okay, so the pieces haven't fallen in place for this yet. But I am looking at recent news and trying to game things out. If near term risks are signs that:
- ICE could start going after trans people
- The FDA might start cracking down on DIY
then I see a bunch of people being like "I should build a back-stock of DIY estrodiol right now". But what happens if those two combine? Is there a future within the next year or two where trans people get raided for having "illegal supplies of drugs"?

@evanEvan Prodromou I almost included a caveat around the fediverse and bluesky. I was excited about both for a while, I think there is still a lot of potential here but in general I have been pretty dissapointed in how its played out. Feels like there are too many people that want to keep the fediverse as some private geek hangout to make the tradeoffs needed to make it widely impactful.
@daleDale Harvey people want to keep their privacy and they think the boundaries of the Fediverse are the boundaries of their personal network. It's understandable.
But there is a tonne of interesting work happening in the Fediverse.

If it is "nuts" to dismiss this experience, then it would be "nuts" to dismiss mine: I have seen many, many high profile people in tech, who I have respect for, take *absolutely unhinged* risks with LLM technology that they have never, in decades-long careers, taken with any other tool or technology. It reads like a kind of cognitive decline. It's scary. And many of these people are *leaders* who use their influence to steamroll objections to these tools because they're "obviously" so good
The very fact that things like OpenClaw and Moltbook even *exist* is an indication, to me, that people are *not* making sober, considered judgements about how and where to use LLMs. The fact that they are popular at *all*, let alone popular enough to be featured in mainstream media shows that whatever this cognitive distortion is, it's widespread.
