RE: mastodon.social/@CodenameTim/1

This touches on a number of thoughts I've been having about the interaction with LLMs and specialist work: LLMs produce "median" work, but no significant functionality in a framework should ever be "median": it's a problem that should be solved once so that multiple people benefit. There will be no prior art; no need for pattern matching.

If a company changes a policy after you buy it, you should be allowed a full refund if desired. I am so tired of companies constantly changing rules. The rules that were in place when you bought the product should remain in place. New rules for new buyers.

The "I accept" is never a choice, it's accept or lose access to this thing you bought and supported.

I have a confession to make: while Haskell will always be my first love, PureScript was the one that truly stole my heart. It felt like a “polished” version of Haskell, smoothing out the rough edges and adding gems like row polymorphism that I still miss dearly. It's heartbreaking to see it labeled a “dead” language now, especially with its primary focus being stuck in the JavaScript ecosystem while other backends remain second-class citizens.

I've tried moving on with ReScript, Elm, or Gleam, but they never quite scratched that itch. They are great for what they are, but for someone used to the sheer expressive power of Haskell-like type systems, they feel a bit too “simple.” I find myself missing the depth and the “if it compiles, it works” confidence that only a truly robust type system provides.

Lately, my eyes have been wandering toward Lean and MoonBit. Lean is fascinatingly powerful, though I'm still searching for a more seamless JavaScript/WebAssembly story there. MoonBit also looks incredibly promising—a WebAssembly-first language that seems to aim for a higher level of sophistication than the usual ML-likes. The quest for the perfect, type-safe web language continues.

트럼프 이전까지는. v.daum.net/v/2026031620...

Happy to share a project I have been working on: a new visual identity for Vinyl Cache!

Installed in front of a web server, it makes websites faster to load.

The new logo stems from a simple concept: Vinyl Cache protects the server just like vinyl film protects what it’s applied on.

The symbol combines a solid block representing the website and a translucent flexible layer as the cache. Together, they form a V monogram, along with a customised wordmark.

Vinyl Cache symbol: a solid block on the left as the web server, a translucent film on the right as the protection layer, together forming a purple V shape.Full logo: the same symbol, with the Vinyl Cache wordmark added next to it.

Ageless Linux, a "technical provocation disguised as Linux distro," circulates among developers and privacy activists 🧩.
Built on Debian, it rejects age verification laws to defend open-source freedom from regulatory overreach 🔒.

linux sysadmin

this problem doesn't break anything but i'm bewildered as to why it is happening

i added lines to /etc/services to help me remember what port does what when i'm looking at the output from ss (formerly known as netstat). for only some of the custom entries, it doesn't work

getent services 42069 works

python -c 'import socket; print(socket.getservbyport(42069)) returns iocaine

but ss -at shows 127.0.0.1:42069
between other entries that do use my names

I'm hearing a lot about "Right to compute" acts, which seem to be written by AI lobbyists to protect their interests. Maybe make it easier to build new datacenters.

What about "Right to create" laws. Giving creators the right to make things and not have them be ingested by billion dollar companies.

This very post may soon help train a model that will decide to kill a human being. I think about that a lot.
