흥미로운 것은 차별금지법이 사회적 합의 때문에 어렵다고 하면서도 '차별에는 반대한다'는 말을 꼭 덧붙인다는 점이다. 진심으로 차별에 반대한다면 차별을 금지할 수 있는 방안을 내놓아야 하지 않을까. 차별금지법 제정이라는 '방법'에 반대할 뿐이라면 법제정 없이 차별을 금지할 수 있는 대안을 내놓아야 한다. 하지만 혐오와 차별에 대해 법 제정을 우회하는 다른 정책을 제안하거나 의지를 보이지 않는 것은 결국 차별을 방치하겠다는 선언이나 다름없다. 중립에 서는 것이 아니라 차별을 조장하고 묵인하는 쪽과 한배를 타는 것이다.
