A recent experiment. I made an "ascii automata" which on click places a random glyph, then analyzes if the character "touches" any of the glyph edges, then places another random character which continues the edge connection, and so forth, until it places a character that doesn't touch any edges. I made it so that you can mix and match different character sets from the dropdown menu (or load your own as png).

After I published my article on malicious Chrome extensions running remote code I actually got a sample of malicious code for the Download Manager Integration Checklist extension. While somebody went though significant effort to obfuscate it, I managed to analyze all of its functionality: https://palant.info/2025/02/03/analysis-of-an-advanced-malicious-chrome-extension/
This extension turned out to be specializing in ad fraud. Better understanding of its code allowed me to find eight other extensions with very similar malicious functionality and one more that doesn’t appear malicious at the point but still related. Fun fact: the ad company in question appears to be scammed by one of their employees.

Made a little bit of progress on my #Fedify project yesterday. Spun my wheels testing a few #TypeScript ORMs and running into compatibility problems with each of them. By the time I went to bed, the preferences page was capable of storing and loading account-local form data for the first time. 🥳
For this project, when progress looks slow from the outside, it's because I'm learning the ecosystem pretty much from scratch. Not letting myself get discouraged. 🙂
