Missed @benWerd I/O's keynote at this year's @fediforum? Here's the full transcript. "The opportunity right now isn't to build a better Twitter or to provide a nice place for people who care about Linux to chat: it's to build infrastructure that vulnerable people can actually use to organize, to communicate safely, and to build community. But we can only do that if we're building with those communities from day one, not building for them based on our assumptions about what they need."

In this FreeBSD Journal article, Vanja Cvelbar combines FreeBSD, Home Assistant, and rtl_433 to build a smart home weather & sensor integration system.

It’s a great example of how FreeBSD supports real-world embedded and automation use cases.

Thanks to all the members of the @django community who trusted us and joined us in Palafrugell 🏖️

I still remember talking about the Django Sprints first with @felixxmMariusz Felisiak , Simon Charette, @carltonCarlton Gibson and @wsvincentWill Vincent at @djangoconDjangoCon US :django: :python: 2022 in San Diego 🌴

Special thanks to Carlton for believing in this idea and for carrying the weight of organizing the first edition. 🤗

The second morning of Django On The Med 🏖️ just finished and it’s amazing how much we achieved together.

Many new ideas and feature proposals came up while working side by side. Sometimes, being together really helps speed up things. 💪

We also had fun breaking the pony-shaped piñata! 🐴 Now it’s time to relax a bit before the afternoon.

Sending our greetings to Wagtail Space 2025 as it’s about to start! 🌍

We had a wonderful evening in Calella de Palafrugell 🌅

A great dinner, good company, and lots of nice conversations ✨

Even though it’s October and off-season, the weather was perfect and the quiet coast made everything even more special 🌊

The local wine chosen by @felixxmMariusz Felisiak was amazing! 🍷

Thanks also to @carltonCarlton Gibson and @judy2k for staying "literally" until the end of the evening. 🌃

🔗 https://forum.dotnetdev.kr/t/topic/13817

I wish I could be at EuroBSDCon this year, but something else overlapped.
Truth is, I still don’t feel ready to come back ... not in person, and not even virtually in the community space.

That doesn’t mean I’ve stopped caring. Quite the opposite: I still care deeply about FreeBSD, about BSD in general, and about the people who keep it moving forward. That part never left me.

A special thought goes to two people who were there this year. I would have loved to see you, even if I’m not at my brightest right now. 💜

Maybe one day I’ll join back again. For now, I prefer to observe and care from afar.

Lots of hugs 💜 🌷

Mutual Aid Request w/link

I'd hate to waste your time, but I need your help. Actually my wife needs your help.

I've explained a bit of this in a previous pinned post (still on my profile in a set of four)

But basically, my wife is unjustly incarcerated regarding the death of her mother and we need help with bail. And remainder that doesn't reach the target amount or overshoots it will be used for other things, such as bills, mortgage, food, additional legal recourse and such.

She's loving, caring, headstrong and she has worked for a behaviorial health center to help drug addicts get back on her feet. She's far more selfless than I ever was.

She's also Bi, has Rheumatoid Arthritis and she is married to me (a neurodivergent)

Climate data get worse by the day, fascism is on the rise, derailing and dismantling the system. Governments are ignoring or blocking sufficient action.
We need to deal with the crisis bottom up.

Where to begin? A manual: drive.google.com/file/d/1kQwzv

O My Friends, There is No Friend by Matt Hern, 2025

The Politics of Friendship at the End of Ecology

Can friendship as a political practice offer enough traction to imagine a borderless world? The startling contemporary rise in aggressive ethno-nationalism and end-times ecological crises have the same root: an inability to be together with humans as much as the natural world.

directory.doabooks.org/handle/

Matt Hern and Am Johal suggest that porous renditions of being-together animated by friendship can spark a repoliticization of the political to surpass the foreclosures of the state, speak to a freedom of movement, and find renovated relationships with the more-than-human. This volume includes interviews with Jean-Luc Nancy, Leela Gandhi and Leanne Simpson.

This is my new Mastodon server. Yeah, another moment, another time, I reset my VPS and then reinstalled this instance again. I enjoyed discovering how to configure my VPS very perfectly without flaws, without results that are due to low-quality decisions, mistakes, and unorganized or unplanned choices.

But, my presence in the Fediverse isn't new. It has been traced back to around the 2020s (I can't remember the exact date) when, at that time, Vivaldi Browser offered me the opportunity to create a new browser sync personal account, and I also started using their Mastodon instance called "Vivaldi Social."

In Malaysia, there were many news mentions of the Fediverse and Mastodon because, at that time, Elon Musk was buying a platform called Twitter before he rebranded it as X, which caused people online to be upset that their favorite platform could be easily bought by a so-called billionaire.
