I’ve been in dark places recently. I didn’t know if I was gonna make it through the holidays. Lots of depression, anxiety, and drinking.

Man, did I need a lift. And I got it.

My lovely friend @reslRachel E. S. Lösche visited us in Portland. We met for vegan food and uplifting conversation. She also brought her rad friend @dariusDarius Kazemi who I met for the first time at lunch. We have tons in common and I’m grateful she introduced us.

What a gift. This was a good day. ❤️

The three of us, close together shoulder-to-shoulder outside on urban sidewalk. We’re all smiling and wearing warm clothes. I have sea foam glasses, a beanie, a puffy jacket, and a long beard. Rachel has a beanie, a jacket, and headphones around her neck. Darius has red glasses, a short beard, and a sweater.

to recent arrivals from the bad place(s). Be gentle w/ yourself as u leave behind the dopamine flames & u will soon find a more sustainable dopamine ember of , &

Follow hashtags, ppl who post interesting things & ppl they follow, & soon your feed will be filled w/content you’ve curated (not an algo designed to hijack your dopamine center)

I’ve found it well worth it after coming here in the great Twitter migration of 2022 (does this mean I’m a elder?😂)

Do you want to start a permacomputing collective? :permacomputing:

In the past months, and with support from @Error417Error 417 Expectation Failed we have developed a small score/guide/recipe that can hopefully inspire you to get started with this topic.

brewing.permacomputing.net

The text of the guide was written by anna andrejew (annaandrejew.com), @praxeologyHart of the Wud and @latentspaceOla based on interviews with @anmeiselAna Meisel (London Permacomputing Club), archipielago.uno, @colmColm O'Neill (Wilderland permacomputing group), @cmos4040 and @decentral1sed1 (rotterdam.permacomputing.net), @praxeologyHart of the Wud (Berlin Permacomputing Meet Up), @michalMichal Klodner (Node9), @sister0 (Autoluminescence Institute), @freeblissSimon Repp (permacomputing Vienna), and Steve McLaughlin (Philly permacomputing + solar punk meetups at @iffybooks hosted together with Dave Slinger).

Copy editing and advice by @l03s and myself. Design for the dedicated website and PDF by @dorianeungual with illustrations from @raquelmeyers

Four telext illustrations by Raquel Meyers that show the four cyclic stages of the score/recipe/guide: brew the base; add the starter; let it ferment; pour and share.

Looking Back at 2025, Looking Forward to 2026

Pizzas, tiramisu, stickers, and plenty of coffee. But above all, people.

My 2025 has been a journey from Canada to Croatia, reconnecting with old friends and launching new projects. In a difficult year for the world, I chose to focus on the light emitted by positive figures, who are often the quiet ones.

I’ve written a farewell post for this incredible year on my personal blog. See you in 2026, with the same Smile(TM).

Man, it's always difficult to write about myself, but that's another way I want to participate in our . Let's count this as toot then.

I used to blog a little here xobb.me/ before ruzzian war, since then I've been trying to focus on other things, fighting stress was one of them, so my social network presence was very limited. (1/3)

Looking back at EuroPython 2025 in Prague, a few months later, what really stays with me are the moments in between ✨

Speaking on stage mattered, but so did asking questions, time at the DSF booth, hallway conversations, and celebrating 20 years of Django together 🥳

Conferences like this remind me why community work is about being present, listening, and sharing space 💬

transphobia, unfair moderation, platform issues

Reddit is officially on my hit list, and honestly, I’m just tired. I was banned for literally saying “I’m trans.” That’s it. No arguments, no insults, no rule breaking just existing as myself. What is actually going on with the internet right now?

On top of that, I also got banned from my favorite anime subreddit for sharing my thoughts about One Punch Man Season 3 specifically the episode with the Monster Garou encounter and saying it looked AI-generated. I wasn’t attacking anyone, I wasn’t being hostile, I was just trying to have a discussion.

Right now, Reddit feels really bad to be on. Moderation feels inconsistent and overly harsh, and it honestly feels like you can get punished just for speaking openly or having an opinion. I’m not even trying to fully drag Reddit anymore because I’m exhausted from constantly calling out platforms but this crossed a line.

I’m just frustrated. Being trans shouldn’t be controversial, and having a discussion about media shouldn’t get you kicked out of a community you enjoy. At this point, it feels like being honest online is treated like a problem, and I’m really over it.

DjangoCon Europe 2025 in Dublin 🇮🇪

Looking back at DjangoCon Europe 2025, a few months later, this was a really good way to start the in-person conference season ✨

I was there as a speaker and a DSF board member: a talk on mentoring in Djangonaut Space, a short PyCon Italia mention during the lightning talks, and many good hallway conversations 🎉

Full recap here 👇

What is the Mountain Mindset? For me its the idea of recognizing as we charge into this future online, we can still develop our own culture. As I have traveled, my observations between city culture & mountain culture was fairly consistent around the world. Mountain culture required living more in tune with nature, more aware of the seasons & surroundings. Community more shaped around connection and sharing. Looking in practice like how the Hawaiian’s live Pono, a lifestyle inspired by values to do the right thing; living in harmony with the land & people. In this present moment of globalization, we can collect ideas that will be needed for the future. Culture will outlive us. We can individually, in our own unique way, create this concept of culture here on Mastodon. Thank you for being here!

Looking up at a big mountain face, lines of snow, rock & light weaving through the formations of raw earth. The feeling in this mountain image reminds me there is something bigger, beyond just ourselves. Hilda Peak, in Banff National Park, Alberta, Canada.

DjangoCon US 2025 · Chicago

Looking back at DjangoCon US, these photos bring back many great moments.

I was there as a speaker and as a member of the Django Software Foundation board. I gave my talk and spent some time on stage sharing updates about the work of the DSF, from governance to long-term sustainability.

In the end, conferences like this are about people, trust, and things built together over time.

LucKey Productions (LKP) is a free and open source game development cult aiming to create enchanting games using only FOSS tools. The source code and assets of all projects are made available through GitLab, along with pre-built binaries. Binaries are also available through itch.io. LKP accepts donations but strongly prefers contributions in the form of time. People can invest time by creating - or searching for - graphics and audio, making levels, writing code, web development, playtesting, packaging, promoting LKP and its projects or by learning the skills required to do the aforementioned in a way that meets the LKP quality standards.

Titles released so far include the twin-stick-shooter heXon, 3D platform games Tux! and Blip 'n Blup, a vehicular soccer game called Open Saucer and A-Mazing Urho. All can be played, but none can be called finished. Several of these projects rely on Edddy for the creation of levels; an in-house block-based level editor.

Most communication happens aboard the Colourship, an astral craft comprised of a chat and forum aspect with specialized subsections (decks) to focus on coding, graphics and audio creation as well as a common room for general and off-topic discussions.

Come aboard and join us in making awesome games for everyone! matrix.to/#/#luckeyproductions

What Brings People to FreeBSD?

Recent comments on our community post showed just how diverse the paths into FreeBSD can be. Some users have been running FreeBSD since the 1990s for its stability and predictable behavior. Others found it through TrueNAS, books, mentors, user groups, or simply curiosity.

Thank you to everyone who shared their experience. These stories help newcomers see the many ways FreeBSD supports real-world work.

Soo , welcome to the reality show.

This is what happens every time it rains for the past three years. I'm tired of talking, pleading, and suffering. Nothing has changed in three years.
But this time we can make a difference, even if it's just a little! By participating and donating to the winter pajama campaign, we can keep these children warm.

I hope this stirs your conscience a little 💔‼️
