Apparently the new parent company aren't going to let us run #Linux on our laptops so in a couple of months I'll have to switch to either of the two popular commercial lesser operating systems. intro post, 2025

OK, stuff about me.

I did computers for a living, but only because I had do to something. They stink. Fuck computers.

So now I've somehow ended up doing (very) old computers and (brand) new electronics for a sidehustle, because it's at least something I am competent at. They still suck.

I like cooking and making good food and drink for family and friends. It hardly ever sucks.

I also like making music. My last album is a few years old by now. I will make another one soon, I hope. I think my music's pretty good. I like most non-vocal music, and some music that has vocals.

I used to read a lot, but for some reason I'm struggling to get back into the habit. A few authors I like, in no particular order: Iain (M.) Banks, Octavia Butler, Howard Tayler, Stanislaw Lem, Ursula K. Le Guin, James Joyce, N.K. Jemisin, Dante, Sappho, Pablo Neruda, Lev Vygotsky, Banana Yoshimoto.

I also used to do a lot of theatre - tech, music, and some direction. Nowadays I just go when I can afford it.

When my hands cooperate, I knit and do other detail-oriented crafts.

I don't like raccoons or opossums. I love cats. Dogs are all right too.

On here I adore - a group B-movie watch on Sunday evenings (9PM ET). Won't you join us?

Do you remember February and March 2020? I was walking around the neighborhood today at 5am just as I was five years ago. A feeling of impending dramatic mass-scale changes rising. This time it's a political, a self-inflicted pandemic but no less severe and profound in terms of mass-psychological shifts. What is the equivalent of masking up today? Maybe it's about turning away from macro politics and engaging in micro politics and mental health care with neighbors and friends, in solidarity?

Hey so uh several of my mutuals keep boosting shit that compares *fascists* to *me* as a way of insulting *the fascists*. And I don't wanna just break off a bunch of mutual connections with no warning, but I also don't have the energy to DM them all and it seems desperately posting and boosting about not using ableism against fascists is not enough. I kept putting off finishing it because, you know, everything sucks, but I put together a mastodon archive viewer website/tool here:

mastodon-viewer.muffinlabs.com

It does the whole '100% local processing' thing, so you can specify your archive zipfile and everything is processed/stored locally. You can also use it to generate a website suitable for uploading somewhere and sharing your toots if you want.

My initial goal was to have this out in the world before botsin.space closed down, but again, the world/etc.

There's a few other tools out there that will do this for you, and a couple of them are definitely nicer looking, if not more functional than this one, but this might be the only mastodon archive viewer that does in-browser processing, offers an export, and also has the source code available -- at github.com/muffinista/mastodon

Preparing to migrate off ProtonMail, since the CEO is clearly delusional, has a world view so divorced from ground truth that he might as well be delusional, is just another gaslighting fascist techbro, or some combination of the three. Whichever it is, I have lost all trust in Proton services. (The Swiss email and VPN provider, not to be confused with Steam's Windows compatibility thing.)

After a maximum risk of 5 years' imprisonment for violence against a police officer, today the German state, represented by the public prosecutor, wanted to sentence me to 8 months' imprisonment. But the judge gave me a penalty of 140 days fines and legal costs of the trial. We still have no idea how much really it is right now. But we will know soon !

I'm very happy! I hope the prosecutor won't appeal,1 week of waiting and we'll know!
