Book 21 of 2025: Where I Come From by Rick Bragg.
I don't personally believe in spending a lot of time being nostalgic for the past. But Mr. Bragg has a decent storyteller's knack, and I do like a good Southern storyteller. And he knows how to write about dogs.
He reads his own books in the audiobook versions. I don't normally like that, but like Lewis Grizzard, he has the voice and cadence to do it right for these stories.

I've been learning about the fediverse for a few years and I knew I had to break away from corporate run social media.

I publish a regular column every two weeks so from now on, I will share it here in addition to everywhere else I get published and use this publicly controlled forum more often.

오늘은 민주당 이재명의 '우클릭' 이후로 나온 광장의 구호들이 유독 눈에 들어왔다. “윤석열 탄핵으로 끝나서는 안 된다”, “윤석열 이후의 세상은 내란 직전과 같아서는 안 된다”. 그러니까 민주당·이재명이 정권을 잡는 것만으로는 안 된다는 메시지가 많았다.

I've never actually done an introduction post, so I figured it's time.

I'm used to being a lurker because I've had a hard time engaging on social media. But on Mastodon I feel safe enough to be a little vulnerable.

I'm a software engineer with over a decade of experience working on SaaS software

I moved from NJ to Boston to work for Blue State Digital. I worked on Universal Quick Donate, a way to store payment methods and donate to any of our customers. I also worked on the mass mailer, and other things.

I moved to HubSpot and have been there since. I started on the Social Team, integrating our product with social networks. Then I moved to the FinTech group and have been working on financial compliance and preventing discrepancies in our billing systems.

I'm an atheist, a husband, a father of two, and we have two cats. I play lots of video games, board games, and should get out more.

I also work on various code projects in my spare time

New instance new intro

I am an autistic queer anarchist. I focus a lot on building communities that do mutual aid, and we do stuff from movie nights and reading groups to building and distributing kits together and such. A lot of that is online through discord, but it will work with matrix soon too.

I also stream and do youtube. I talk a whole lot about accessibility, ableism, building mutual aid, and space. (I studied astronomy)

Am trying to recover from what I think is an almost unheard of domestic emergency. On Thursday evening I spotted that my heating system was leaking water and the pressure was falling steadily.
Uncertain I turned off my heat pump and tried to contact my installers who originally made a series of pretty major blunders on installation.
Next day, with water still streaming out of the pipework gently, I finally made contact with them. No one was available for a week. 1/n.

If anyone has any five-toe-socks recommendation, let me know will ya? (tagging the folks here, even though I myself haven't been a runner in quite some time).

I want a basic ankle sock with the freedom toesies. I have these sandals, see, and I want to wear them more often, see, but they're thongs (no not those thongs, yes I'm old), and so I want to try the toe socks.

I wore the Vibram five-toe shoes years ago so don't worry, I'm okay with being laughed at. 😅

Sometimes I wonder if my depression was misdiagnosed, and something else is deeply wrong, creating similar symptoms.

I'm pretty sure that thought just stems from an inability to "prove" there's a problem, besides pointing to the symptoms. I can't ask for some exotic blood test that will quanitify what's going on.

And so all I can do is take my meds, go to therapy, and wonder.

I was in the Nov '22 migration from the birdsite. Enjoyed a good server, but I needed to move to a non-US one.
Retired, married many decades, recently moved to a blue state. I mostly boost an eclectic mix of others toots.

I live on the edge of the Peak District, the oldest national park in England, UK. I'm originally from the US; I started immigrating in 2010.

I'm an entrepreneur, a freelance service provider. I'm just pivoting my business from bookkeeping to data analysis. My degree is in mathematics, and I'd like to do more math, so I came to this mastodon server.

I enjoy in the countryside, (including Terry Pratchett, Jonas Jonasson, Jasper Fforde; also non fiction), , , , and more. I am . Hubby and I are gradually doing up our newly-bought home, so features occasionally.
