So, why *is* hyperthreading aka SMT "going away" (and is it actually, or just in some cases)?

I've seen some sentiment along the lines of "finally that shit is going away, it's about time", but from my perspective we were at a time that hyperthreading was (finally) relatively useful, and right when it's at its most useful, *then* it's dropped. It was bad when it came out, now we have 3x more functional units and a ton more memory bandwidth for software to waste on low-ILP serial shit-code.

@elateriteBob Tregilus @GargronEugen Rochko @ramRam Prakash Agreed. I made a pixelfed when I first started on the fediverse and decided it wasn't for me. Too much like IG which I was wanting to leave. I quite enjoy these text based conversations that don't happen on a photo forward platform.

If I was to request any specific changes for photos on Mastodon it would likely be in the form of toggling a "show only image/text based post" for those times I want to view images/text only... and shareable lists.

@mariusormarius Hey quick question...

Do you have any go-to tools that you use to test out AP servers? I just started messing around with adding AP to a project using your library for the types and I wanted to interact with it locally with a CLI or something to see how it would work and if I had the minimum routes working as intended.

I suppose I could run Oni locally and try to follow the actor on the other server I am building, but wasn't sure if there was any other tools that are handy.

Thanks!

It's been 2.5 years with little progress finding mitigations for prompt injection attacks LLM apps... but that may finally have changed!

Google DeepMind published a paper describing CaMeL, an ingenious system that could, maybe, lead to secure digital assistants simonwillison.net/2025/Apr/11/
