What is Hackers' Pub?

Hackers' Pub is a place for software engineers to share their knowledge and experience with each other. It's also an ActivityPub-enabled social network, so you can follow your favorite hackers in the fediverse and get their latest posts in your feed.

does anyone know if there's a way to search a man page for a specific flag? whenever I search for “ -C" I always end up finding a bunch of other mentions of the flag instead of the flag's documentation itself

the only thing I know is to add a bunch of spaces before the -C

Okay this has provoked a lot of tributary conversations which are giving me an hypothesis.

For the purposes of this poll, typing “fast” means reliably more than 100 words per minute, and “liking” LLMs means that you personally interact with and use their output voluntarily, even if you maybe still have a lot of reservations about the ethics or safety of doing so.

I should suck it up and learn to program properly in TypeScript. There's a growing list of software that I'd like to use and extend that uses TypeScript (Obsidian, Lume, Fedify), not to mention its utility for web programming. The language itself is pretty good, though I'm not thrilled by a lot of the tooling and ecosystem around it. Hopefully there's a way of writing usable code in it that keeps the messiness at bay.

ActivityPub 5.8.0 for WordPress is out now! 🎉

This update includes two things I’ve been especially excited about: new email templates and user-specific notification settings.

Emails now have way more information—mentions and direct messages embed the full post, and the refreshed design looks more modern and polished. New follower emails come with a profile card to help you get a sense of who’s engaging with your content.

Got little bits of code you keep copy-pasting from project to project? That’s a sign you should turn them into a library!

And guess what? You’re in luck for two reasons:
- It’s never been easier to publish one with @deno_landDeno and JSR 🚀
- I just published a new lesson showing you exactly how to do it 💡

Check it out on Code Like a Journalist! Link below 👇
