sigh. There are a lot of posts going around right now claiming that is feeding data to the various data sniffers that the US government uses for surveillance and that is not.

This. Is. Crap.

Anything you post on Mastodon is nearly as easy to vacuum up as things you post on BlueSky. You should treat *all* social media platforms larger than a Signal group of your college friends + Pete Hegseth as "assumed public." It's slightly more work to slurp up almost all of mastodon but really not that much more.

Rough thought that I should try to polish up and write:

I nearly died on Tuesday from accidentally eating something I'm allergic to. It takes an exceptional amount of vigilance, hypervigilance even, to avoid when an allergen is so incredibly common as mine is.

I think about that whenever I see something that boils down to a demand for individual vigilance, whether that's victim blaming about sexual harassment, just don't write bugs in your code, or make sure to follow the news closely enough.

I was taking one of the kids to practice. We passed by a movie theater where they were showing the latest iteration of the old man's power/revenge fantasy. The kid looks over and says "I could have sworn that sign said A Twerking Man".

What a movie that would have been!
Announcer: They underestimated him for the last time. Now they're about to realize they messed with the wrong guy!
Door is kicked in.
Jason Statham, in booty shorts, leans over and shakes it for the camera.

It's so weird to me that in one part of the developer ecosystem everything revolves around containers because they guarantee a known environment in which your code can run reliably.

And in the other corner you have web devs, who gleefully run a gigantic stack in clients that are varied, unknown, flawed, and have extensions literally injecting code alongside your code, and getting error and perf reports is unreliable and full of false positives.

this is subjective but IMO just because something has a common abstraction doesn't necessarily mean the underlying implementation is purpose-agnostic (and it usually isn't). Which is the core issue around the NPM ecosystem as I perceive (both the deep-email-validator bug and the systeminformation smell is a manifestation of this.

There is nothing inherently wrong with 'systeminformation' except the readme misleading that it aligns with the deployment context of a backend server.

I was trying to sign in to my Adobe account to use Behance for job hunting, but the site login seems totally broken… So I went to try logging in from Adobe.com, but the site doesn’t even load with Safari on Mac.

Adobe.com works fine with Vivaldi (Chromium)... So I guess we’re back to the IE6 era of only supporting the monopoly browser? Maybe they are still bitter about Apple killing Flash?

Safari for Mac doesn’t load adobe.com site content, just the wireframe.Adobe.com loads fine with Vivaldi (Chromium)

hey all! while the zine and mask distro is paused due my time being spent taking care of the pup, there are digital services that i'm offering for free that people might be interested in (it's like mutual aid, but in the form of bits and bytes!)

Thank you so much to everyone who supported me/this work on ko-fi, y’all made the framing possible !
