The EU is introducing an energy label for phones, together with mandatory requirements for phones sold in the EU;
- 5 years of software updates (AFTER they stop selling the device in the EU)
- providing important hardware parts (during sale and for 7 years after), including free software (if needed), to every repair shop, within 5-10 business days
- batteries have to make 800 charging cycles and still be above 80% original capacity
And on top of that, phones and tablets need this energy label (which also includes a fall damage durability and repairability score), and abide by the above requirements, from 20 June 2025.

@silverpill I have that in my brutalinks link aggregator, however it doesn't work transparently for the whole fediverse because there isn't yet a dynamic way of registering an OAuth2 client[1] that would work with all web-finger capable services.
[1] there actually are at least two: RFC7591, and also IndieAuth
@silverpill also Mastodon own's dynamic client registration is slightly different than the RFC I mentioned previously, so a client which is RFC compliant would not work with Mastodon instances. :D (another one for the pile of mastodon quirks)

What can be done with email, can also be done with ActivityPub. For example, I'd love to be able to register on websites with WebFinger address instead of email address. Some sites already support registration with Matrix or XMPP addresses, but I haven't yet seen WebFinger being offered

I'm exploring a new idea called FediOTP (codename): an authentication system that uses #ActivityPub DMs to deliver one-time passwords, allowing any #fediverse account to authenticate with web services. Unlike current solutions that rely on specific APIs (#Mastodon, #Misskey), this would work with any ActivityPub-compatible server, increasing interoperability across the fediverse. Would love to hear your thoughts on potential challenges or use cases for this approach.
