If you are not seeing my posts on Mastodon for long, its because I am made a pariah by moderators of Kolektiva who kicked me out from Kolektiva mastodon server, for "antisemitism", because I made the cardinal mistake of attacking the root of more than a century long Palestine oppression culminating in Genocide.

They kicked me out for reasons I will address

Let me introduce you to aceBSD! Yesterday, while I was out grocery shopping, I saw a special offer on a final unit, and I had already been thinking for a while about getting a mid-range laptop to take with me to conferences, on trips, etc. Something small, practical, with an HDMI port, and capable of running at least one of the BSDs decently. After some careful thought, I decided to go for it today.

It's an Acer Swift Go 14 - with an Intel i5, 16 GB of RAM, and a 512 GB NVMe SSD. What I really like is that it’s compact and has a high-definition OLED screen, a good keyboard, and for the rest... we’ll see. I just used Clonezilla to make a backup of the preinstalled Windows (I didn’t even boot into it...) and I’m now installing OpenBSD. I had to disable VMD (from a hidden BIOS menu) because otherwise the installer wouldn’t detect the NVMe. It also seems to detect the Wi-Fi, but I’m proceeding with a USB-C Ethernet adapter just to be safe.

I got it at a good price, so this could be the ideal solution. Fingers crossed, and… we’ll see!

I'll keep posting about this adventure, with the hashtag

A smiling man in a light blue shirt stands indoors holding a cardboard box with the Acer logo, indicating it contains a new laptop from the Acer Swift Series. He is posing happily in front of a wooden door with decorative glass panels.

Updating my personal site content and once again distracted by Starlight's built-in "I'm feeling lucky" random theme colour generator so... new light theme! 😂 Rep'ing blue jays and Starlight.

(Also, which past version of me wrote the line, "High tech. Low alto." and can I buy her a drink?)

Screenshot of my personal website in light mode: white background with various shades of gold accents such as header, code block background, and page table of contents, and bright blue accents for links, social icons, and website name beside beside a photo of a blue jay I use as my site logo.

Currently listening to "ZauberwalD.mod" by slash/atd/rpsg from the revision Demoscene party 2025 and had the compulsion on working on/optimizing my Amiga music file (mod, ahx, prt, tfmx fc14... etc) -> UADE -> FLAC -> NAS shell script...

Not really happy with kdialog/dbus interface on FreeBSD, maybe I should look into other script UI dialogs. Anything other than yad or zenity , which could be used instead? Need a yes/no box and a progressbar. Any hint into the right direction more than welcome.

My attention was brought back to this essay from 2020 which says, "scientists don't get to decide if science is political"

I know this intimately because as a queer woman raised in the right I do not get to decide if my existence is political: "I do not want your life to be political" are literally the first words that were said to me the first time I came out. Being *made political* has defined my life so I'm comfortable with it in a way that most tech people are not

scatter.wordpress.com/2020/11/

You all can stay in the intro level, "oh my god are we political?!?" swirling mess forever if you want, reading fancy CS faculty in the NYT pontificate about teaching while we destroy all the funding that goes toward teaching in CS and STEM education... or you can join some of us who sit out on the beach talking about survival and frankly maybe appreciate the magnitude of our capacity to still love and hope for you, that we would even invite you

2025: oh no, we deskilled our factory labor force and now we can't produce anything in our own country!

also 2025: here's a great idea: nobody needs to learn how to program for real because we now have these great AI systems! why waste years in computer science degrees?

2045: oh no...

I just saw something that said conservative, right wing manosphere producers actually don't want men to be well adjusted and happy. Because no one would consume their angry content then. The anger has to be self perpetuating.

And now my mind is broken. It's so obvious when you hear that

I’m going to say this slowly.

If Andrew Tate & his ilk were right about ANYTHING they’d have no audience.

Guys would listen briefly, apply advice, & be WAY too busy with their new gfs, side-pieces, & high income hustles to bother tuning in.

It’s the Tinder principle: if you’re happy, they lose a customer.

Their business model is your unending misery.

Hmm just discovered that fastfetch doesn't have imagemagick support as I cannot display a custom image using sixel yet I can using neofetch ?? Can any other users or devs confirm this ?
I'm using xterm with sixel support.

Fastfetch line:

fastfetch --logo ~/Downloads/freebsd-icon-27.png --logo-type sixel

Neofetch line which works:

neofetch --sixel ~/Downloads/freebsd-icon-27.png

Some scenario where I am really excited and want to see in @badgefedThe BadgeFed Project is the possibility of independent game studios to issue achievements for in selfhosted badgefed platforms.

And then I could "own" my badges with another self-hosted instance, in a single place, if I decide.

This is a other thing to decentralize from .

If you or someone you know is developing a game, please reach out.

Attaching examples.

“The AI jobs crisis is here, now - by Brian Merchant”

bloodinthemachine.com/p/the-ai

> The unemployment rate for recent college graduates is unusually high—and historically high in relation to the general unemployment rate

"AI" is killing entry-level jobs, which means that a few years down the line companies won't have senior labour to hire.

This also shows that talk about “AI literacy” and “AI skills” is a joke. You’re not gonna need any skills if employers aren’t employing in the first place
