What is Hackers' Pub?

Hackers' Pub is a place for software engineers to share their knowledge and experience with each other. It's also an ActivityPub-enabled social network, so you can follow your favorite hackers in the fediverse and get their latest posts in your feed.

Hello, Fediverse! I recently moved from @arnelsonAdam Nelson and I'm now self-hosting Mastodon from a server in my living room!

I don't think I've actually posted an introduction before?

I'm Adam. I write code. In theory, I use Mastodon to talk about programming and tech and my own side projects (which I rotate constantly but never seem to finish).

In practice, I mostly use Mastodon to boost memes and talk about whatever video game I'm currently obsessed with. So if that's what you're here for, follow me!

TARGET went hard into urban mostly Black and Latine communities. they figured out 20 years ago that Black and Latine companies have rabidly loyal clienteles, especially in beauty and haircare products. the best example is Carol’s Daughter which started as a humble stall in downtown Brooklyn and now sells millions nationwide.

and they threw it all away for Trump.

fuck around with The Culture y Las Culturas and y’all find out

Swift Concurrency has been a bumpy business

But yesterday, there I was, minding my own thread and wrote some code backed by my 30 years of experience and Swift was having none of it

Took me a moment to realize that the compiler was right, fixed the flaw and moved on with life

Nice progression: from wasting weeks tracking an obscure race condition that rarely ever happens, to fighting the compiler for half an hour, to accepting my role as a meat-based LLM that writes thread safe code

@lcamtuflcamtuf :verified: :verified: :verified: If there was a property for the most ignorant thing you could say without recognizing your ignorance this would pretty much define the upper end. Up there with a comment from a Greenpeacer that went something like “if we could engineer a way to kill off 95% of the human population without destroying what’s left of the environment we could bring the Earth back into balance.”

The Senate has voted to repeal regulation of seven pollutants. This is the first time in decades that the Clean Air Act has been weakened.

As an aside: this action uses the Congressional Review Act, an awful act that not only allows congress to review specific rules issued by agencies, but to overturn them AND PROHIBIT THEIR REINTRODUCTION FOREVER. IMO this law violates the separation of powers (Congress can muck around with agencies that report to the Executive, for instance), allows Congress to prevent agencies from implementing their own rulemaking processes, and allows Congress to break things PERMANENTLY. This act was signed into law in 1996 by…Bill Clinton. Thanks, Slick Willie, you jackass.
