call to action 👇

« … We urge you to recognise Palestine as a sovereign state and reaffirm the rights of the Palestinian people. It is time to turn the tide on decades of suffering and failed peace talks, end the occupation, and move towards lasting peace. … »

TIL another reason to download your Bandcamp collection for local use: the various cloud outages (or maybe something else) seems to be affecting various bits of Bandcamp's online playing of (some) album tracks and downloading (some) albums.

The cloud: it's like NFS crossmounts from random workstations used to be in the old days, except more opaque. (Well, no, not that bad. I was there and I remember the hacks to mitigate the problems, including the automounter.)

I just watched Alex Padilla get thrown to the floor and cuffed after trying to ask Noam a question at a presser.

The Senate is meant to be only second to the House of Representatives in power in our system of Democracy. They are fewer, older, and meant to be the wise body of the government, serving longer than presidents, and running less often than reps.

If you're waiting for the sign that things have gone too far, it's passing you by.

America is neither safe nor free.

OK So I've managed to build maomaowm a new compositor on my machine. I haven't changed any configs as yet but it really does look promising and it's really fast too. If you like a Wayland tiling window manager that is like some of the best bits of sway, labwc, hyprland and dwl all molded into one then give this a try. Will I stick to it ? Probably not but never say never.

Just read Molly White’s new post on Citation Needed, and wow. If you haven’t yet, you need to check it out. She pushes back on the rise of cynicism, reminding us that it all matters and not to surrender.

Apathy only helps darkness win.

Read it here: citationneeded.news/it-matters
Better yet, listen to her voice reading it. Make the time!
It is 3 minutes that will restore your belief in the truth and never to give up.

Apple love to preach "the UI gets out of the way of your content" with each new redesign, but how true is that in practice? Let's compare the total height of the Safari UI with a toolbar, favourites bar and tab bar visible, across the three latest Mac OS design languages – Yosemite, Big Sur and now Tahoe. I've added a red line for emphasis.

It sure looks to me like the UI is eating more into my content with each redesign.

Collage of three screenshots, showing a comparison of the upper left corner of Safari between Mac OS 10.10–10.15, 11–15 and 26. With each redesign, the Safari UI gets taller.

Long Covid symptoms

Gah, I’m in a full-on relapse since last month.

Here’s the symptoms, if you’re interested :
- [ ] Strong fatigue, I need to sleep or rest most of the time; I can rarely leave the house; only a minimum of housework gets done; I hardly ever see family or friends
- [ ] At the same time, irregular sleep: I’m often awake at night, with my mind kinda racing (“wired”) but my body feeling really tired

«𝖛𝖔𝔦𝔡 balotta» by @grafton9archivio grafton9 shows venues listed on balotta.org, an Italian @gancio server.
🗺️ autistici.org/void/balotta

«vous revoir» by @simonSimon Daron shows events listed across both @mobilizon and servers.
