Today, I had on my task list the upgrade of a pfSense box to the latest 2.8.0-RELEASE version, a problematic box with a colorful history, located in the middle of nowhere, more than three hours' drive away.
UPS: check. Disk health: check. Backup: check. I started the update.
Twenty minutes after the reboot, I couldn’t connect back, which already gave me an unpleasant feeling. What could have gone wrong?
Long story short: the Dynamic DNS service stopped working after the update.
How do I know? Because it’s not the first time this has happened. Since 2020, all my pfSense boxes "phone home" if they detect a discrepancy between the stored and current public IP address.
I manually updated the IP address on the DDNS provider’s site, disabled pfSense’s DDNS service, and pasted a script to update the DDNS from the command line via cron.
I'm not up for looking into stuff right now. Just happy I dodged a 6 hour drive in this crazy heat, and yeah, I totally deserve a beer.

Microchip responded to my support ticket about the VSC8512 SERDES output buffer control.
They say they don't document the registers in question except in a separate secret datasheet (I thought I had all of the docs for this chip). So much for it being fully open.
And they want a NDA to get that doc.
But I've also found enough in open non-NDA'd places that I am reasonably confident I can figure it out. The Microchip MESA/MEPA libraries include some stuff in vtss_phy.c that has similar named registers and I'm ~98% sure that I can suss out the missing bits between that and AN3743 which is public and mentions all of the relevant bitfields, just not where the register lives in the address space.

One of my tasks in the mutual aid meal train I am involved in is setting up the delivery routes. I have desperately been looking for a quick and easy software that I can give a decently sized number of addresses (25-30), set up a start and endpoint, tell it how many vehicles are operating (3 for the most part), and this software giving me 3 routes optimised for similar amount of time driven.

국내 스마트팜 전체 시장이 2천억원 정도인데 그 시장 규모의 대부분은 생산도구+출하량+해외 수출입니다.
지엽적인 문제 몇가지는
1. 스마트팜을 유지보수할 사람이 없구요.(기후로 망하나 사람이 없어 망하나..)
2. 초기 도입 비용이 엄청나구요
3. 식물의 퀄리티가 출하기준만 맞추게 되어 있는데 실제로 먹어보면...
그래서 국내 스마트팜은 물량 맞추기용(탄소배출권 및 정부지원으로)으로 근근히 출하량을 맞추고 있습니다.

Erst nach der Fertigstellung einer #Straßenbrücke für Autos in #Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh, #Indien) wurde festgestellt, dass die eigentlich ganz normale #Kurvenführung, wie sie an fast jeder normalen #Kreuzung vorkommt (eine Ecke mit ca 100°-Winkel) – für Autofahrer ein absolut unfahrbares #Hindernis darstellen würde. Entgegen der Faktenlage herrscht überall #Empörung über den angeblichen "90°-Winkel".
Sieben am #Brückenbau beteiligte #Ingenieure wurden entlassen und mehrere Firmen auf eine schwarze Liste gesetzt.
Die Brücke soll nun zumindest teilweise #abgerissen werden, außerdem ein paar #Häuser und #Grundstücke #enteignet werden, damit die Brücke mit einem größeren Radius #neugebaut werden kann – und das alles nur, damit #Auto-Fahrer noch #schneller fahren und ein paar Sekunden #Fahrzeit sparen können.
