日本にインバウンドで来ている外国人しかみていないと、世界中の人が日本を好きと勘違いしてしまう。でも、わざわざ日本に来てる時点でかなり偏りがある。日本嫌いな人は来ないから。逆に、日本から海外に行くと、別にいうほど海外の人は日本のことなんて気にしていないことに気付く。沢山ある国のひとつに過ぎない。

この十数年で日本はどんどん円安になって所得もぜんぜん伸びず、相対的にすっかり貧乏な国になった。以前のように工夫をしたら貧乏旅行でもそこそこ楽しめるという時代ではなくなってしまった。最近の「日本ファーストで何が悪いんですか?」みたいな素朴な排外主義って、日本という殻に閉じ込もって「日本スゴイ」「世界中が日本大好き」プロパガンダにすっかり染まってしまった結果なのかも。

Kind of sad that it’s 2025 and we still don’t have a reliable way to screenshot DOM elements via JS.

Using an SVG with a foreignObject and drawing that to a canvas gets close, but getting external resources like fonts and images to load is a pain. 😅 Not to mention things like checked checkboxes.

There’s a way to use getDisplayMedia() and restrict that to a specific element, but the API is desktop Chrome-only. 😕

I love reading thoughtful analyses of bugs and the factors that produced them. Nowadays I usually arrive somewhat resigned, and expecting a "zeroth order" C bug -- something like bad pointering or failure to initialize a variable.

This is more of a "second order" C bug, and the author goes through the potential tradeoffs and rightfully points out that the answer is not "git gud." I'll put my thoughts on the bug in a reply so as not to spoil it for you.

Anyway, it's a good short read.
