- People with caring responsibilities
- People with disabilities
- People with health vulnerabilities
- People who don't fly in recognition of climate emergencies

- People who have their travel disrupted due to climate chaos
- People who only engage with fully open access scholarship (if you have to travel+pay to watch a talk, it's not at all open access, even if a related publication is)
- People who can't leave their country for fear of not being let back in
- People who can't get visas
- Unfunded/underfunded people
- People with unfavourable exchange rates
- People who have limited holidays off work
- People who can't afford it
- etc..

I guess you end up with rooms mostly of academics with travel budgets who are too senior to really do research any more, and research students with stipends. That's fine but the perspectives can feel limited, ungrounded and underinformed.. with a huge environmental cost.

I received an email. I'm not sure if it was generated by an AI, but they knew several details about me and my company - details not easily found online, so the source was likely elsewhere.
I started reading to understand their objective, which eventually became clear. They want to help me "digitize" and "modernize" my company, because Cloud and AI are a great aid for businesses, and they are experts in these technologies. According to them, "companies like mine should innovate by using these technologies and not remain relegated to old 'pen and paper' procedures, otherwise becoming less credible".

In other words, the email was a short circuit, completely dissonant between the first and second parts. Either they did a classic copy-paste for the second part, or they used a poor-quality AI. Or both.

I replied, offering my consulting services on how not to use AI and IT tools. I told them that my consulting would be a great aid to companies like theirs, who use "modern" tools so poorly that they become uncredible, and I'm convinced their systems are leaking everywhere.

I'll be curious to see their response 😆

Would you say that's just an issue of understanding it? LD's links to RDF seem not dissimilar to ActivityPub's links to RSS. And it sounds like SoLiD is JSON-LD friendly (https://forum.solidproject.org/t/using-solid-with-json-ld/1641).

Could the issue be SoLiD wrapped a bunch of technologies as a product & they need unbundling? WebID on its own sounds v promising (https://solid.github.io/webid-profile/); as does WAC (https://solidproject.org/TR/wac), tho obvs ObCap is very appealing (tho further from W3C standard).
