@codinghorrorJeff Atwood Soon you'll be able to set consent on the browser end: doc.searls.com/myterms/ It just takes IEEE even longer than the EU sometimes. Hope it doesn't end up being binned like Do Not Track was. If only self-regulation worked.

There's this story where the members of Devo got flown out to the label headquarters where the label got them *incredibly* high and then tried to get them to sign a contract while under the influence that would have made Johnny Rotten their singer. This is often pulled out as a go-to example of the unethical behavior of 20th century record labels but also I kinda wonder what that band would have sounded like

a common affordance in scifi is that spaceships can just video call each other, even spaceships of different races who have never met before. this implies that there is a sufficiently mathematically obvious RTC protocol that all spacefaring races eventually discover

I think the bug I resolved (I wouldn't say fixed) in @novelwriter today is the weirdest I've encountered so far.

The app uses @-based keywords to set meta data in the text. An auto-complete menu pops up to suggest which keyword when you type an @ on a new line.

In the current version (at least) if you have the editor "justified margins" set, type an @, then type backspace, then *and only then* will Qt/PyQt segfault and crash the app.

Just spent a decent chunk of the weekend mocking up a hello-world/fork-me app that mixes Rust Rocket for RPCs with TypeScript Preact for browser frontend. Got to the Preact part. Promptly realized I haven't written Preact in so long I've forgotten what the fuck "linkstate" is
