"Only ten percent [of over 5,000 US adults] said they were "more excited than concerned," indicating that most Americans simply do not share the extremely optimistic views of tech leaders selling AI products."

I was too busy with the Django 6.0 feature freeze and alpha release to toot yesterday, but 34 years ago Use Your Illusion I and II dropped.

Today, while finishing Django post-release tasks, I listened to these albums again. Still hitting hard!

RE: mastodon.social/@Gargron/11522

This is my first "official" Mastodon-style quote-post.

Although, quote-posting has existed on the Fediverse for years now — on Misskey, on all the Misskey forks (ex: Firefish), on Pleroma, on the Pleroma forks (ex: Akkoma), on Mitra, on Hollo, on Friendica, etc.

Plus, people have been doing screen-shot style quote-posts on Mastodon (and other places on the Fediverse), too, for years.

The mob of people jumping in replies to criticize or name other products each time Signal is being mentioned is becoming ridiculous.

Stop. Doing. That.
You are not helping. This is rude.
And in some cases, you are mansplaining.

Write whatever you wish in your own posts, but please respect what others want to talk about.

This isn't always about you. You can just stay silent and pass by when you disagree.

To state the obvious: this is bland stuff, clearly protected by the 1A and so very far within the bounds of what a non-authoritarian FCC would allow that it’s just comical. Kimmel is about as controversial as a goldfish here. They aren’t serious about it being a problem; the whole •point• is that it’s obviously •not• a problem.

They are using something extremely benign to test the waters of government repression of speech, to see just how much they can get away with — and ABC caved like 3rd-grade toothpick bridge.

With PSF elections having just wrapped and DSF elections coming up, it is a good time to remind you that you should participate in your open source foundations. Join as a member, vote, and help fund the organizations that keep these projects, communities, and ecosystems running. Re-sharing my blog post from last year (with minor updates, mostly about two membership classes merging): jonafato.com/2024/11/06/psf-an
