The new Mastodon quote support is coming soon to VT Social! If you have an account on another instance, help us by looking up these statuses there to see how they look:

The behavior that you can expect is:

  • All existing quotes are preserved and displayed locally, as seen from this instance
  • All existing and new quotes within the instance (of posts in the same instance) are displayed properly on all servers supporting quotes (old and new)
  • Existing quotes of posts on other instances will fall back to text as viewed from new servers (supporting the new consent protocol)
  • New quotes are only allowed of upgraded servers, and will be displayed everywhere
  • No new quotes of legacy servers are allowed going forward

We'll roll this out soon, along with a major server migration to new, redundant infra!

Are there any activitypub clients that can be configured to fetch and cache attachments, and/or prefetch linked pages so that they are available for offline reading?

I’m on a cruise with limited access, but it made me think of folks who don’t have the privilege to afford unlimited data, and a near future where unchecked corporate greed makes network access or interop something you can’t presume as an app developer.

wired.com/story/dhs-has-been-c

It's impressive how many ways feed readers screw up ETag values. Make up their own? Insert ETags obtained from the target of a HTTP redirect of another request? Stick suffixes on the end? Add their own quoting? I've seen them all.

(And these are just the ones that I can readily detect from the ETag format being wrong for the ETags my techblog generates.)

Hello Lurk and Mastodon.

We take advantage of this first post to introduce the collective.
BBB is a group of 20 people based in Belgium and France.
We will post mainly in French, sometimes in English or both.

In their researchs, BBB dig and twist standards, question licenses and the smoothness of our digital interfaces.
We will post here mainly about our researchs, events and publications.
