A colleague did benchmarks of our new internal web app toolkit-- slogan “use the browser; it's fast” -- pitted against React. It was not a contest. It was a a rout.

So happy I got to help make that work happen in the way managers help work happen: by telling the person whose idea it was that it was a really good idea, and giving the people involved as much space as possible to do the work.

Next challenge is to find a way to let them present on it in public. This is not a company that does open source work as a habit. It's so weird to me.

I saw that money saved freedom of speech from this ABC/Disney case. If people who believe in freedom of speech had much less buying power, freedom of speech would disappear. Ironically - or perhaps obviously - I observed that democracy in the US is being maintained with money.

while working on the win10 -> gnome a4 for the halifax event, i installed microsoft edge from flathub because... i dunno, it's there and why not, i guess.

are all microsoft products this obnoxious? it really rivals google for shitty user interfaces. it started with the world's slowest full-screen animation to say "Hi." and then proceeded to force me to click through a dozen things telling me about how good it is at "ai" before i got to the browser part.

totally bananas.
