So, with a massive 27% of the over 30,000 votes cast, this is officially the Woodland Trust Tree of the Year for 2025! Known as the Argyle Street Ash Tree, it's thought to be at least 170 years. This makes it older than many other major features of the West End of the city, including the Kelvin Hall, the Kelvingrove Art Gallery, and even the current Glasgow University Campus. Thanks to the thousands of you who voted for it.

A lone ash tree stands in the front garden of a Glasgow tenement, and towers over the four storey building.

The Canada Revenue Agency is doing a public consultation on automatic tax filing (which they should have implemented …several decades ago!). Fill it out and let the CRA know that it’s a good idea! canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/co via @lisafast

New job just dropped!⚡️ THANK YOU to our incredible team of volunteers, dedicated members, and support staff for getting us here - I couldn’t be more excited to be your BC Greens Leader.

I know that we’re at the forefront of a powerful movement that will reclaim BC’s economy for working people, not billionaires and multinational corporations. Now’s the time to get involved - join the BC Greens, become a volunteer (link in bio), and stay tuned for what’s next 💚

It's a bird! It's a spaceship! NO, it's a bird IN a spaceship! 😆

Y'all, I'm legit proud of the programming we put together for Wagtail Space 2025. In a world full of scary headlines and enshittifying tech, I feel truly happy to be lifting up stories of people using to help others and build valuable things for their communities.

If that's a vibe you're into, join us! Tickets are free and you can get yours right here: events.zoom.us/ev/AtWesoZI_eMU

Even if you don't believe like I do that a well resourced Servo project provides our best path out of the Google Web and into a new Open Web, I think many of you might find it interesting to read the monthly updates to see how a modern web engine comes together. It's juuuuust a little bit more complex and neat than NetPositive, the first browser I worked on.

I'm sure other people have noted this but at some point we went from talking about "social network sites" to talking about "social media sites".

At first, the network was the thing that mattered. Then, the media was the thing that mattered.

A quick Google Trends query shows the shift might have happened around 2012:
