洗濯機が終わったら干す作業があるけど、それ以外は寝るだけの時間、Misskey。

急にレスポンス悪くなったときは、PCが落ちたか寝落ちしたときです。

In case you missed it, the fediverse is under attack by a Pro-Russian Propaganda Network. You can learn more about it in the blog post from @iftas below.

Here are two things everyone can do to help combat this:

1. If you see an account posting or spamming Telegram links, report it. Many of the accounts are impersonating news outlets — check verification status, the account's follower count, or the outlet's website to confirm if the account is real or fake.

2. Donate to your local mods if you can, or at least give them a big virtual hug and say thanks. They've been working tirelessly around the clock to combat this and deserve our gratitude and support.

Stay safe out there, friends.

Over the years I’ve worked with a lot of programming languages and had to learn a lot of weird shit. However nothing has felt as hard to get into as Rust for some reason. I love the ideas and nothing about the ecosystem is bad, but for some reason I’m filled with imposter syndrome juice as soon as I start doing anything with it. No idea why. Maybe it’s because it’s been marketed as the most complex and hardest thing to learn in the world? Or I’m getting really old?

Every single person that’s ever worked there must face trial for the sadistic murder of more than 2,500 starving civilians; they lured them with a promise of food then gunned them down, daily!”

When I hear about the Apple Calculator app casually leaking 32GB of memory, I'm not thinking that's a lot of memory--I'm thinking that's a Connection Machine 5 amount of memory.

(The 1024 node CM-5 supercomputer at Los Alamos had 32GB of memory when I used it).

Time doesn't care about what you want to do.

It passes at the same rate regardless of how important:
- that critical deadlines was
- that quarterly earnings target was
- that KPI was
- that report was

Your inbox will refill. Your projects will be there tomorrow. Work will be there 20 years from now.

Life will pass you by. Don't miss what you can't get back.

“The Great Software Quality Collapse: How We Normalized Catastrophe”

techtrenches.substack.com/p/th

> I've been tracking software quality metrics for three years. The degradation isn't gradual—it's exponential.

That thing where you don't really wanna say it, but kinda have to: I told you so.

ETA: ugh. Truly not a good article. Sorry.

Forces of Nature: The Women Who Changed Science by Anna Reser & Leila McNeill, 2021

From the ancient world to the present women have been critical to the progress of science, yet their importance is overlooked, their stories lost, distorted, or actively suppressed. Forces of Nature sets the record straight and charts the fascinating history of women’s discoveries in science.

In the ancient and medieval world, women served as royal physicians and nurses, taught mathematics, studied the stars, and practiced midwifery. As natural philosophers, physicists, anatomists, and botanists, they were central to the great intellectual flourishing of the Scientific Revolution and the Enlightenment. More recently women have been crucially involved in the Manhattan Project, pioneering space missions and much more. Despite their record of illustrious achievements, even today very few women win Nobel Prizes in science. In this thoroughly researched, authoritative work, you will discover how women have navigated a male-dominated scientific culture – showing themselves to be pioneers and trailblazers, often without any recognition at all. Included in the book are the stories of: Hypatia of Alexandria, one of the earliest recorded female mathematiciansMaria Cunitz who corrected errors in Kepler’s workEmmy Noether who discovered fundamental laws of physicsVera Rubin one of the most influential astronomers of the twentieth centuryJocelyn Bell Burnell who helped discover pulsars
