Thank you to everyone who contributed to the @ThePSFPython Software Foundation as part of this effort. Thanks to @glyph @amethystAmethyst 🌸, @Yhg1sThomas Wouters, and @offby1Chris is. for jumping in with matching funds, but double extra-special thanks to @glyph for doing the PNG-lifting for us all.

This is why I love the Python community, and have for nearly 30 years.

I’m looking into the world of authentication and most solutions are remarkably complex (most of it justified? some of it?): separate services, object-relational mapping frameworks, etc.

Additionally, most of the advice online sounds dogmatic and doesn’t explain the reasons for adopting certain practices.

I want to note, though, that even with all of this enthusiasm, the PSF is still not as funded as it would have been if they’d compromised their mission and taken the bestringed money offered by the NSF. This is good energy, to get grassroots funding to happen, but we *need* corporate sponsorships to step up commensurate with how much they gain from the Python ecosystem. Python is everywhere, and those who profit from it should do their part to support it. wandering.shop/@offby1/1154942

Hello everyone. My friend and I have started a fundraising campaign with a goal of 2500 euros to help us face the harsh winter. We are in urgent need of a tent, warm clothes, mattresses, and blankets to stay safe and warm. Any support, even small, will make a real difference for us. Please consider donating and helping us reach our goal as soon as possible. Your kindness means more than you can imagine. Thank you.

We did it! Y'all are absolutely amazing, and together we've matched $17,000, for a total of $34k raised for @ThePSFPython Software Foundation!

A personal thank you to everyone who donated, and an extra heap of thanks and gratitude to @glyph for organizing and managing all of this. And of course, thank you again to every single person at the PSF, and all of the board members, for being a model of ethics for the rest of the world! :python: mastodon.social/@glyph/1154935

I realized I haven't used this account for a long time, so here's what I've been working on.

This is a screenshot of an experimental project: KiwiCDi, which is an attempt at running CD-i programs without a BIOS or anything implementation-specific (or you could say high-level emulation), which is running TwBurn's CD-i controller test disc

This screenshot is dated September of this year, but nothing has changed much since then.

The CLUT color palette was randomized as a hack just to get the image to show up for the screenshot (it was all black initially)

2 windows opened up, one is a terminal showing the standard output of the KiwiCDi emulator, which contains logs of Microware OS-9 syscalls and other misc logs. and the other is showing the graphical output of the emulator running the program

We've covered how Meta Ray-Bans could have been worn by CBP during ICE raids, how it's being modded for facial recognition, and how it's being used as a spy tool.

Every time Meta argues: What is the difference between Meta’s Ray-Ban glasses and an iPhone?

SO yeah—here's a guide for Meta's PR team: 404media.co/whats-the-differen

Wanted: a lightweight open-source OCR engine, ideally as light as the OCR engine built into Windows 10/11 (apparently intended for mobile apps while MS was still trying to play that game), so not one of the current heavy deep-learning-based implementations, but also as good at handling color screenshots (particularly those with a mix of background/foreground color schemes) as Windows OCR. In my experience Tesseract fails on that latter point; would love to know if I'm just missing some trick.

We at @credativde@mastodon.socialcredativ GmbH are launching our very first & free open-source virtualization gathering in Germany, Mönchengladbach.

This new community event brings together everyone who’s passionate about open virtualization technologies, whether it’s Proxmox VE, XCP-ng, bhyve, Harvester, or any of the countless projects that make open infrastructure thrive. It’s about sharing experiences, learning from each other, and connecting with those who build and rely on open platforms every day.

We start the evening with two talks:

* "Enterprise-Ready? How people use Proxmox VE & Ceph" by Ronald Otto from Tuxis B.V.

* "BoxyBSD – Creating a free VPS hosting platform" by Florian Paul Azim Hoberg <gyptazy> from credativ GmbH

Afterwards, the space opens up for discussion, networking, and casual chats. If you like to join with a talk, please feel free to reach out to me.

俄羅斯如何干預波蘭大選:重點不在贏,而是製造對立、假資訊擾亂社會
global.udn.com/global_vision/s

yesterday we elected a mayor who is a muslim, a socialist, an immigrant, and unapologetic about any of it. he ran on socialist ideas and anti-zionism and won. the entire political establishment moved mountains to stop him and failed. they trotted out some of the most disgusting islamophobic trash i've ever seen, and he spoke arabic during his victory speak over them.

i am still an anarchist and i still view electoral politics and leaders with suspicion, but this is a very big deal. i really love this weird town and how it manages to keep surprising.
