Hi! Today is my first official day as the Executive Director of Mastodon, replacing 
@GargronEugen Rochko as CEO. I joined the Mastodon team more than 5 years ago, mostly working for Mastodon in the evenings on top of a 120% day job. I was the driving force behind the incorporation of the German non-profit, am a co-founder of the US 501c3 non-profit, and I have contributed to most of the fundraising success, which allowed us to expand the team.

One of the things we don't talk about enough is how to secure the peaceful transition of power in open source projects.
We've all seen BDFLs turn into mad kings.
There are innumerable projects which have collapsed when the founder left.
Hostile takeovers prevail in some communities.
The whole Mastodon team should feel proud at this move. A clear structure, fair compensation, and a secure footing for the future.

また、データベースの内部構造の変更などについても、APIに変化はないので破壊的変更という扱いにはしていませんが、派生ソフトの立場からは(マージがコンフリクトするので)破壊的変更とみなされてしまうというのもあります。
Mistakes with AsyncStreams and iterating them is something you can easily run into. なので、エンドユーザーからすると、UIの修正・改善などが多い＝頻繁にUIなどが変わる＝破壊的変更が多い、という認識になりやすいのではないかと思います。
内部的なAPIなどの互換性がそれによって失われるわけではないので、ソフトウェアとしてそれは破壊的変更扱いにはしておらず、認識に違いが生まれてそうです

また、「破壊的変更」を指すものが人によって異なるという点は注意が必要と思います
例えば過去に、UIの軽微なデザイン修正なども、人によっては「破壊的変更」と表現していることがありましたが、プロジェクトの認識としてはそれは破壊的変更ではなく修正という認識です。
ちなみにフロントエンドのカスタム絵文字周りの最適化のために近々AiScript APIにBreaking Changeを入れるかもなーと考えてる
（なお、肝心の移行作業に想定よりかなり時間がかかりそうなので、先に新方式のAPIをAiScript側に実装してリリースし、移行が完了したタイミングで元のAPIを消すというは余裕を持った移行を想定している）
