とか疑い出したらキリない x.com/daisdaorie/status/199179

My friend seems genuinely baffled that I am an AI researcher who refuses to use AI! Not only that, but I argue against it from theory, not experience. Why don't I just give it a try for a while, and see what it's really about before I judge it?

I guess I see where he's coming from. Part of the problem is the word "AI." LLMs are not my research focus, so it's less of a contradiction than it sounds. But I admit, being a non-user makes my arguments against LLMs less credible.

I just don't understand why I owe it to anybody to give AI a shot. I know how LLMs work in gory detail, and I don't trust them. I've seen the mediocre work they produce. I've read studies about the seductive illusion of competence and caring they create, and how people fall for that. I know it's all built on an incredibly exploitative business model.

I feel entirely justified in not giving them a chance. I guess I'm just as baffled by how badly he wants me to try it, and how sure he seems to be that it would change my mind.

If the government doesn't bring services to the people (universal health care, access to clean water, safe public transports, cheap postal services, etc) what's even the point of having a government?

Maybe socialism is just rationalism.

I'm sure this is a solved problem somewhere, but a bit of searching didn't find it, so I'm writing my own local web app to periodically download my home timeline (and related accounts, statuses, etc) and stuff it into to make a local .

This is basically to help with the "I know I saw this on my timeline but it's now > [server cache size] statuses old and I want to find it" problem.

1) Anyone know of a baked solution for this?
2) Am I going to piss people off?
3) Should I respect "noindex" on Statuses even if this is a personal tool?

Gaza, Genocide

Nothing screams "ceasefire" quite as loudly as bombers going on a raid, killing 14 people and maiming many more. "Ceasefire" means Israel is allowed to indiscriminately murder the indigenous population, but they're under no circumstances allowed to defend themselves against it.

Apple Friends, Xcode is bundling 48 megs worth of SwiftSyntax code into my iOS libraries and binaries because I defined some @macros on my code.

The library does not reference or consume SwiftSyntax. In fact, a test with SwiftPM shows that it works correctly for a standalone executable, but for iOS it just gratuitously bundles it

It is rendering my Godot Apple plugin unusable by people, with over 150 megs of code.

I could really use your help, self contained test case here: FB21126349

光の表現っていろんな種類があってほんとに楽しい

蝋燭から灯される火の光はふわっと照らしてくれるようにぼかしながら描いてます

動画にするとよりこの表現って必要だったんだって思える🕯️✨ x.com/mutsudayoooon62/status/1
