I wish English had a different phrase for “I’m sorry” where it means “I sympathize with your hardship” instead of “I apologize”.

We have “I’m sorry for your loss”, but it’s hard to express sympathy without sounding apologetic.

“Dude, that sucks” works, I guess.

If the government doesn't bring services to the people (universal health care, access to clean water, safe public transports, cheap postal services, etc) what's even the point of having a government?

Maybe socialism is just rationalism.

I think about this image quite often; it illustrates that only a small part of image gets 'sent' to our brains at a time. There are moments where we see the whole image, but then it quickly goes back to 'read bit-by-bit'.

That piece-by-piece is why it doesn't exactly trigger the 'uncanny' or 'weird' feeling.

It also highlights why composition is important and the whole 'guide one's eyes' has merit.

At this point I can't retrace the source of this image.

Whoever can identify this lens mount type is a badass.

Hints:
it's smaller than C mount and not threaded like D mount.
Appears on an angenieux retrofocus 6.5mm f1.8 and every link I found says this is a D mount. It does not have thread though and instead uses a locking mechanism similar to more recent lenses. Does not work with D mount adapters.

Our friends in Catford had a speed problem in their street. Council did nothing. So some bright spark put up a fake speed camera. Pretty convincing and it worked.

Council removed it within 48 hours because it "could be dangerous". Speeding is dangerous. Funny how inaction leads to swift action to maintain the status quo.

@Em0nM4stodonEm :official_verified: @nrdufourNicolas Dufour The thing is, I'm not sure that this is actually true for the politicians themselves. I mean, it's hard to be sure, of course, but I think a lot of them know they're straight up piling on BS when they declare democratic socialism to be communism or etc.

Actually, I think what they're afraid of is the end of their own careers. They pretty much rely on utilizing fear and ignorance to remain in power, but democratic socialism would eliminate a lot of those factors.

Adam Something joined me on the Urbanist Agenda podcast to talk about a new political party in Czechia, the "Motorists for Themselves" party, and it was even crazier than I expected.

The far-right is being actively funded by fossil fuel billionaires and they're attacking climate change legislation ... and good urbanism is being caught in the crossfire.

This irrational fear of socialism from some politicians in the US looks so bizarre from Canada, a country with universal healthcare and some kind of social net that is still sadly very much under the grasp of destructive capitalism.

Are those politicians terrified the people could be healthy, fed, safe, and happy? What exactly terrifies them here?

このテーマ性が僕にはとても刺さりました… x.com/utaho_novel/status/19921
