The other day, @noybeu published a great video explaining whats is wrong with the Digital Omnibus, a bundle of laws the EU commission wants to pass quickly in order to weaken the data protection standards the EU previously established in the GDPR.

My favourite quote is what @maxschrems says around minute 42:

When we talk about the AI discussion I usually kind of allude that originally when we came up with all those principles in the eighties in the Council of Europe, the idea was always that we are going to have this big algorithm that is going to suck up all your data, come to weird conclusions, and therefore we need transparency, rectification – we need all these things. And now, exactly at the time when this is the reality then suddenly the argument is we have to get rid of all these rules that were made for exactly this situation. So all this icks me a bit on all of that.
If you read it you sometimes get the idea that the commission wants to get to the AI promised land. And to get there we need to cut right through the whole GDPR.

I received response to my FOI petition to the European Commission regarding their acceptance of Twitter Terms and Conditions.

Their answer is that there is no documentation that supported their acceptance. That is to say, nobody studied the legal implications of accepting Twitter's conditions. Somebody should be responsible for this :-/

Subject: Your application for access to documents – Case 2022/6729

Dear Mr De La Cueva,
I refer to your request for access to European Commission documents addressed to the Legal Service of the Commission on 21 November 2022, registered on the same date under the above-mentioned reference number. Your request was re-attributed to DG Communication on 30 November 2022.
You request access to: 1-.The Commission documents that contains the acceptance of Twitter Terms and Conditions by the Commission, Commissioners, other public bodies
dependent of the Commission and other persons acting on behalf of the Commission and its bodies. 2. Specifically, access to the documents, if any, that provided legal opinion allowing the Commission, Commissioners, other public bodies dependent of the Commission and other persons acting on behalf of the Commission and its bodies, to accept Twitter's Terms and Conditions and if there have been special conditions related to applicable law and courts jurisdiction regarding the usage of Twitter website.
I regret to inform you that the Commission does not hold any documents that would
correspond to the description given in your application.

🚧 Europe faces a defining choice: uphold our digital laws & defend European digital self-determination, or cave to pressure from Trump, Big Tech and corporate lobbies.

🪧 Yesterday in Brussels, with @PeopleVsBigTech, we launched mobile billboards urging the @EUCommissionEuropean Commission to stand up for its citizens & democracy.

The “Digital Omnibus” would reopen and weaken the GDPR, ePrivacy & the AI Act, lowering safeguards & expanding surveillance by both states & corporations

There are also signs that Europe 𝗰𝗮𝗻 stand firm.

Amazon Web Services & Microsoft Azure may soon be brought under the scope of the . The Commission is preparing a investigation to assess whether these cloud giants should face new obligations after years of escaping DMA oversight due to technical loopholes

📣 This is the kind of strong enforcement we need to see. Europe does not need fewer rules, it needs to enforce the ones it already has ⤵️

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1q1hjmwLqe4

Updated my unofficial schematic tram network map for Graz to include the new Neutor line and the upcoming Lines 16 & 17. Clear variants, simplified operating times, and the E1 bus replacement service for Line 1 are all shown. A clean overview of how the network will look from November 29. 🚋🗺️✨

Unglaublich.
