What is Hackers' Pub?

Hackers' Pub is a place for software engineers to share their knowledge and experience with each other. It's also an ActivityPub-enabled social network, so you can follow your favorite hackers in the fediverse and get their latest posts in your feed.

This type of email feeds into the hopes and dreams of emerging authors. There is NO WAY someone like Rebecca Yarros knows about me: a self-published author who's never ranked higher than #84 (once) on Amazon.

This scammer is only seeking to get my raw material. Once they have it, they'll feed it into an AI machine that spits out something that's only a shell of the kind of story I write. Something without wonder, without heart, without EMOTION.

To this scammer I say: Fuck you. Do you think I was born yesterday? ๐Ÿ˜ก

Scammers are taking things to a whole new level of desperation. It's abhorrent and disgusting, and it needs to stop. It won't, of course, but I hate that we live in a society where this is the norm.

All we can do is report and blockโ€”and hope that by sharing experiences like this, others don't fall into their trap.

Happy is Dead Day to all who celebrate. If you're not celebrating, what's wrong with you? November 29th is the best day of the year by far.

I give a free free follow back to any and all who have the good taste to observe, loudly and proudly, with all the joy this holy occasion merits.

It's a picture of an old man in a suit. The picture is of Henry Kissinger and it is in color. You've never seen Kissinger I'm sure it just doesn't matter to you, I just wanted to add a photo to my post.

Free unlimited file sharing

AltSendMe is a free, open-source app for Linux, MacOS and Windows that lets you send files or folders of any size directly to someone. It uses Iroh (also free and open-source) for initial routing, then works peer to peer. It will resume interrupted transfers from the point of failure.

Tthe official site: altsendme.com/en

A comparison with commercial services: xda-developers.com/i-swapped-d

The inevitable Reddit discussion: reddit.com/r/editors/comments/

There are also mobile versions in development.

Good morning Fediverse.

Some time ago, I wrote a little schema for ActivityPub objects. The schema is currently used to generate little alarm lights, see the column with ["Note"].

If people have comments and / or examples of objects to test, can you open an issue.

Thanks!

On a side note: I believe that the Fediverse would be a better place, and easier to develop for, if people validated all the objects they generate against such a schema. Of course, I very much understand that this involves a lot of work, that everyone rather avoids. It's a "do as I say, not as I do" case.
