What is Hackers' Pub?

Hackers' Pub is a place for software engineers to share their knowledge and experience with each other. It's also an ActivityPub-enabled social network, so you can follow your favorite hackers in the fediverse and get their latest posts in your feed.

“One core difference between the fediverse and the AT Protocol seems to be that AT decouples many key building blocks – identity, moderation, ranking algorithms, even your own data to some degree – from your server. The fediverse, on the other hand, ties them all to your server and sees that as a desirable feature.” — @snarfed.orgRyan Barrett

This pathological payment pattern I can't wrap my head around why it exists, because it just happened with STRIPE, who should know better: 1) default method is expired and has failed, 2) add new method, charge goes through, 3) expired payment method is still default, fails next time.

Malá nedělní zajímavost -

Kapky prince Ruperta

Jde o vědeckou kuriozitu nejméně ze 17. století. Vyrábí se kápnutím roztaveného skla do studené vody.

Hlavička vydrží údery kladiva i výstřel kulky menší ráže. Narušením tenkého konce se ovšem celá za milisekundu rozsype na prach.

"podcasting"? the only casting i need is my fishing line. the only streaming i need is the local river. my onlyfans are mounted to the dang ceiling. my web site is in the corner of my shed and my "net" is for catching tuna. the only vee-tuber i know is the weirdly shaped tater i grew last year

english speakers sitting in their arm-chair in front of their fire-place watching a pod-cast on their tele-vision and using their smart-phone to re-blog a list-icle from their local news-paper about how silly it is that germans make new words by gluing existing words together

Here’s a song for toddlers who tried out broccoli and (ADHD?) adults who finally managed to process that email they’ve been putting off for months.

> i'm proud of myself
> and i'm really really cool
> cuz i did that thing
> that i didn't wanna do
> and i did a good job
> and it wasn't that bad
> and now that it's over with
> i'm really really glad!
