Is it just me or was black-friday-cyber-monday a bust?
I'm serious I bought a big purchase (~$800) on Cyber Monday thinking it was actually some deal, but it turns out it's the very same price today. And I suspect it was the same price before.
I'm not feeling duped. I just would have bought it much earlier and got the benefit sooner.
Hope to be able to pronounce Hauptbahnhof correctly before this trip is over at least.

My main thoughts on an AI bubble remain where they have been for years:
- The same thing—dot-com rerun—can’t happen twice, because the first time it happened it wasn’t influenced by its own history. Something else will happen. This goes for most phenomena that humans participate in.
- We will be compute-constrained forever.
- The best product-market-fit for this technology is software development.
- Models are commodities.
- The hyperscalers are making real money selling compute.

There was one year where advent of code was much more fun than usual where the theme was like "write an emulator for a made up video game console" and it happened to be a year I was solving it using a call-by-push-value scheme that I had hacked up to procrastinate writing my dissertation.

I am once again begging, begging everyone to hold these 3 thoughts in their head at once:
1. Plastics recycling is not very effective. It’s far, far better to not use plastic at all in the first place, and that failing, far better to reuse.
2. Plastics recycling is not worthless or pointless. Don’t just throw it all away because “iT dOEsn’T matTeR.” A miserable 5% reclaimed is still better than 0% reclaimed.
3. Plastics recycling is nonetheless part of a petrochemical greenwashing campaign, per
