사실 난 자식이 부모를 봉양할 의무는 없다고 생각한다. 부모가 자신들의 선택에 의해 자식을 낳았으니 아이가 안정적인 환경에서 성인으로 자랄 때까지 책임지는 건 당연하다. 하지만 자식은 자신의 선택으로 세상에 나오지 않았다. 그렇기에 부모를 봉양하는 건 의무가 아니라 자신에게 아낌없이 사랑을 베풀어준 부모에 내한 보답, 혹은 사랑하는 마음이 우러날 때 기꺼이 하는 일이라고 생각한다. 그래서 누구에게나 늙으면 자식이 있어야 한다는 그 말에 내포된 뜻과 무게에 동의하지 않는다.
