I need a device that will take an arbitrary HDMI signal, downscale it to 480 lines tall, and crop it to 640 pixels wide, straight out of the middle .
I can't figure out why such a thing does not exist for less than many hundred dollars.

Okay this is wild. So there was this third-party screen reader for the Mac called Vosh. It's recently been picked up by some one who has had enough of Apple's neglect of the Mac and canned responses. And I understand that. But also I kinda want to ask why not Linux, but I understand that as well, that everything else they like about the Mac except the screen reader.

Especially 2 overwhelms me, but is a hard requirement. A lot of devices say they need a BrandName® Hub and it's not obvious to me whether I could replace that with a free alternative.

Therefore, we put all that in -Xdev. I know you rejected that as "if only everybody would", @sethmlarsonSeth Larson, but since changing the default visibility would also force every end user program to "just change the warnings filter", this is an equivalent "if only everybody would".
We should evangelize the use of -Xdev and/or pytest
