What is Hackers' Pub?

Hackers' Pub is a place for software engineers to share their knowledge and experience with each other. It's also an ActivityPub-enabled social network, so you can follow your favorite hackers in the fediverse and get their latest posts in your feed.

"RemoveWindowsAI" is a script created by zoicware, available on GitHub, that does exactly what it says: it remove every AI feature in Windows 11. Do what you wish to do with this information. I'm sharing this because some folks are forced to use Win11 at work or other places for any reasons.

I’ve travelled to the US more than a hundred times for work, lived there for five years, & was a Green Card holder.

I always found it to be a fascinating & often beautiful country, & one that can achieve astonishing things.

And despite being a mess of contradictions, including many aspects that I personally disagree with, it always felt self-confident enough to allow discussion & debate about those issues.

No more, it seems, so I doubt I’ll be going there again.

I sadly had to be in the US a few weeks ago. There was the esta question:
( ) list all social media accounts
( ) I have no social media accounts

But for now you can leave both empty and continue, which is what I did. Rember also that non-US citizens have zero data protection for any data you give them.

With EU regime change now a goal, it might have been my last visit to the US

“Something ineffable happens when you write down a thought. You think something you did not know you could or would think and it leads you to another thought almost unbidden.

[..] the process of writing itself leads to previously unthought thoughts. Or to be more precise, writing crystallizes previously half-formulated or unformulated thoughts, gives them form, and extends chains of thoughts in new directions.”

Okay, there are home automation nerds here, right?
I *think* I want home assistant as software?
Tell me (concretely) what hardware to get:
1. easily available in Germany
2. no proprietary hard/software connected to wifi or ethernet
3. priority right now is controlling heating, so thermostats, sensors for windows…?

Especially 2 overwhelms me, but is a hard requirement. A lot of devices say they need a BrandName® Hub and it's not obvious to me whether I could replace that with a free alternative.

@freakboy3742Russell Keith-Magee @sethmlarsonSeth Larson @hugovkHugo van Kemenade This was decided quite long ago based on the (I think correct) assumption that the end user is not the right recipient for this warning.

Therefore, we put all that in -Xdev. I know you rejected that as "if only everybody would", @sethmlarsonSeth Larson, but since changing the default visibility would also force every end user program to "just change the warnings filter", this is an equivalent "if only everybody would".

We should evangelize the use of -Xdev and/or pytest

Lasst uns hier geMAINZam austauschen: lebendig, vielfältig, solidarisch. 🙂
