We stand there for hours with the shovel, digging, making pathways for the water, trying to stop it before it reaches our tents.
It’s a scene that repeats every winter the same stance, the same cold, the same fear of the water flooding everything.
This is part of our daily reality… a hardship we face with our own hands, step by step, hole by hole.
Just so you can see how difficult it really is…
This hole we dug with our own hands is what collected the water and stopped it from flooding the place.
All day long we keep digging new holes, gathering the water in them, emptying them, and repeating the same work over and over again.
This is our struggle every single time… just to keep the place from flooding, and to stop it from reaching the point where we can’t even walk in it.

Het gedecentraliseerde socialmediaplatform Mastodon heeft overheden wereldwijd opgeroepen om via open platforms met hun burgers te communiceren, in plaats van de systemen van techbedrijven te gebruiken die vereisen dat mensen een account aanmaken en persoonlijke data delen. Onlangs stelde demissionair minister Karremans van Economische Zaken dat de Rijksoverheid wel op Facebook en Instagram actief moet zijn omdat daar miljoenen Nederlanders zitten en er geen geschikte alternatieve platforms beschikbaar zijn.
Volgens Hannah Aubry van Mastodon communiceren overheidsinstanties vaak via het "censuurfilter" van bedrijven die niet de belangen van mensen of de samenleving dienen. "Ze laten hun boodschap bepalen door de grillen van wereldvreemde en overbetaalde mensen die vinden dat ze ongecontroleerde macht zouden moeten hebben. Dit kunnen we niet toestaan", aldus Aubry. Ze voegt toe dat overheidsinstanties via Mastodon wel de controle over hun eigen communicatie hebben.

Tohle fungování, praxi, skutečnost celkem nikdo (ani já) nezpochybňuje a nechce měnit.

I'll feel comfortable relying on computers once one can produce them sustainably and in small communities.
Right now, #digital isn't "the future" and doesn't replace anything, as far as I'm concerned.
It's a fragile outgrowth of a system of systems, all of which have further undesirable properties.
If high tech fails, my PC will expire in a couple of years, taking *everything* with it (and that's not my biggest concern).
I'll keep using "outdated" stuff for that reason alone, thanks.
I added the ability to manage property values on users' profiles to #Enigmatick. As I'm using this more as my full-time #Fediverse platform, I'm running into things that I've sort of blown off in the past as silly or unnecessary but finding useful now.
In this case, I implemented it using Add and Remove messages posted by the client (a single-page application in Svelte mediated by a wasm module) to the user's outbox on the server. The Actor is the target and the PropertyValue is the Object.
It's not canonically how those #ActivityPub messages should be used (e.g., managing a Collection - the attachment field on an Actor is not really a Collection). But I think logically it makes sense. And it's client communication only; those activities are not federated. When a profile is updated via the Add or Remove, a separate Update is sent out to known servers to update the profile.
Also, I may have gone a little overboard with my own properties.
